Okay, So I know this is probably a dumb question, but how is it that you get sponsors?
I mean, I already assume that you have to be bigger....Duh. But do they come to you initially, or do you sign up to become one?
I was just wondering =]

Is this a fucking skateboard forum? Get out of here. Play music because you love it, or get out and stop polluting it.

i know sam ash sponsors (or at least used to) bands that applied for it. They have to play like 4 shows and month and meet some other criteria.

Haha, get a job? I work full time as an auto mechanic, my dear, and I'm a full time college student. I'm glad to hear you think I'm an adult.
Also, music does work for me. Would it be nice to be a famous rock star someday? Sure! Is that my PLAN in life? No. My plan is to play music for as long as my body will allow me, because I enjoy it, and because it's a positive part of my life. Never said sponsors were evil. Just think it's silly to go out looking for 'em.

we got 50 cases from rockstar on our last tour. thats pretty much all they do for local bands. our guitar player would trade them for cigarettes at gas stations. go to a frat (most have a student that is endorsed for parties), ask them who their rockstar rep is, get the contact info, call the dude and tell them youre in a band ad they'll ship 50 cases to your doorstep. youll probably get banners and trucker hats too. its easy
I think this is a really good question, I don't really have any idea of how a person would get sponsored.
I know my friend got sponsored by a local drum manufacturer, Tree House Drums. (fucking awesome drums, check them out.) but he knew one of the owners...
You play music. And you play it well. And people pay attention to you.

I think it goes more like this:
You play music. You meet the right people. You send well-worded emails. You get endorsements.
There are numerous requirements for a band to get on board with companies. A large thing they look at is how many shows you play a year. If you're not playing enough, no one will see their product which in turn would be a waste of their time.

If you want to go about getting sponsors, yes you were correct about having to be known somewhat. But usually you have to have someone representing you like a manager. They can get through to those kinds of people and us musicians usually can't. It's almost like trying to walk into Capitol Records and asking them to sign you, just won't happen.

That's not true at all. It may be the case in some companies, but from my experience you don't need any sort of manager.
