One of the biggest indie labels offered Letter Twelve (http://www.lettertwelve.com) a deal? That's the rumor.

way to keep it subtle. :)
I just really like the Bless the AM remix... because of the techno-final-fantasy intro =p

Good band, great live and good guys, but to me signing to Tooth and Nail is a double edged sword. I've heard from a lot of bands that they screw bands out of publishing (which bands make a good portion of their money off of), which bands should have 100%, not half and half (check your T&N cds, if there isn't Thirsty Moon River publishing on the credits, then the band got lucky).
Good for them though if they think that's the right way to go.

if bands were to get 100% of publishing - how would the label make money? i honestly wouldnt care about publishing money, most of the good money comes from tour.

There's more to it than you know. Lately, publishing has become a big deal when it comes to bands dealing with labels (trust me, I know for a fact). The label makes money from the normal price of a cd. Take into account that it only takes around $4 to make a cd. If the cd is being sold retail, the band gets whatever royalty there is to be made (which the publishing is included). If a band shares publishing, they won't make money off of a record at all. Slick Shoes (former T&N band) sold about 10,000 copies of each of their albums on Tooth and Nail. HAVEN'T SEEN A DIME. It's still possible to sell that many records and get paid, it just depends on what the label spends for the record. With those albums, there was hardly any promotion (at least that I know of), no videos being made, and if they were being made, that didn't cost them much either probably.
Touring does make you money, yes. But it's still essential that you get publishing. What if a tv show or a movie wants to use your music? How would you get paid for that if you had no publishing? MxPx's "Chick Magnet" was used EVERYWHERE, but they didn't own the song, meaning they didn't shit from it.
Just somethin' to think about...
