Hey guys... I need some advice from people that live in these two areas.

I currently live in rochester, ny and have wanted out of ny state for a long time. I have two options... Philadelphia and Maryland (in the DC metro area).

If I move to Philly I will live with my one of my really great friends Andrew and I have a couple other friends down there. I've been try to do some research and have been reading such horrible things about Philly!!

The DC metro area of Maryland... I feel would be an easier move because I have a friend who lives just outside of Baltimore and she works at a temp agency. So that would be the easiest way I feel for me to find a job before moving, which is the hardest task I will face... besides finding and making friends. I won't really have any friends if I move here and I don't really know how or where I would find them! haha. I guess that applies to Philly too but having a friend or two there will help in that department.

I guess I just want everyone's opinions on which you think is a better place to live. I don't know why all I'm finding on Philly are such bad things!

Philly is a cool place to visit, not so much to live there.

I do not like Maryland more specifically Baltimore. I'm not sure why. Philly all the way.

Philly would be my ideal choice. If you're used to a fast upbeat enviroment. Maryland is a lot slower. My sister goes to Towson and loves it, whenever I vist her I'm not a fan

DC is fucking awesome, but the maryland side has the anacostia area...which is pretty rough. but yea, I'd say DC>philly ftw

Philly is great. I always have a good time there. What did you do while you were there?

It's really not that bad. By Drexel and Temple it's pretty nice.

Parts of Maryland aren't that bad if you learn where to go and where not to go. Really. I've lived in Baltimore all my life, and I haven't had too many run ins with shady characters. It's something that would come with living in either city. Every city has dangerous/sketchy parts, thats just something you'd have to work around. You should base your decision like you said first on being able to get a job. Then where you know you'd be able to afford a place to live, and since you are young I guess base it then on things to do outside of work.

Last time I was in Baltimore I felt like I was going to be shot 24/7. My friend goes to Towson and she is so afraid to go off campus.

TOWSON? Is she serious? I used to walk alone in towson when i was 12 years old. Towson is by far no where near the sketchiest or worst place in Baltimore haha. Hopkins maybe, but not Towson

OK so this isn't making my decision any easier!

My big thing with hating Rochester... is there is no one here for one. I don't know how or where to make friends when I'm somewhere by myself. I've recently been reading a lot of bad things about Philly and it makes me scared... even though I'd have friends there. I would know someone in the DC metro area besides my friend who works at the temp agency. (but she's married). The other friend is in VA and is a guy I rather fancy so I'm trying to keep that part out of a decision.

I am young, I guess... haha... almost 27... which I think makes it harder for me to find/make friends. I don't want to move somewhere and be as miserable as I am here because I don't know where/how to make friends! bah!
