Baseball loses a piece of history. Next up, Yankee Stadium.

I grew up about 10/15 minutes from Tiger Stadium. The last few years they played there it was $2 to get in the bleachers, $1 if you brought an aluminum can to recycle. Even as bad as they sucked then, it was still a good deal. Don't get me wrong, Comerica Park is a hell of a stadium, but I'll miss Tiger Stadium...

The two games I went to there, they won. One of them being the last game ever played there. The tribute was amazing.

Comerica is great, but you never get the same feeling and sense of pride.

Tiger Stadium currently has more championships won than Comerica haha.

Tiger Stadium in itself is a prime example of how much Detroit fails as a city. Plans for Comerica Park were announced in 1997 and in all that time no one could figure out a plan for what to do with Tiger Stadium. This just isnt the Detroit city council and the mayors fault its everyones fault. All people talk about is how much they want to save the place and throw out ideas but it never gets past a couple meetings before everyone would back out.

I grew up there, millions of metro-Detroiters did but no one with any power to preserve or pay tribute the stadium ever cared. Just like how Detroit operates though, send in the demolition crew unannounced, when no one was expecting it or looking towards it. The fucking King Dome got a ceremony when they imploded that dump, Tiger stadium deserves much better.

They ripped out the bleachers first. You know just take care of the section most sentimental to the fans right away...

Did they mow the field while the stadium was not in use?

they spent like 6,000 a year in basic upkeep untill 2006 then they city just let the stadium decompose.

Interesting. They should just keep it in use for like college teams/high school tournaments to be used.

As long as Comerica Park is cheap and easy to seat, that's fine. I got plenty of games in with my family before '99 so that's already off my life's to do list.
