Please read and follow these basic rules (it makes everything better here, and will keep you from getting banned):
Repetitive messages: Cross-posting, flooding, spamming, advertising for a website, etc. If there's a website out there that people need really need to see - or if you would like more exposure for your own - please use our Classified/Self-Promotion section.
Messages devoid of content: Posts with 50 lines of the letter "J", "First Post", "who cares", "why was my post deleted", off-topic posts, threadjacking, complaining about links, repeated filter evasion, and trolling (see below). Attention whoring should be confined to the personal life forum. Intentionally posting off-topic or trying to derail a thread ("threadjacking") is very seriously frowned upon.
Messages exhorting others to commit illegal acts: Murder, extortion, and any other felony are expressly forbidden. DoS attacks, hacking, flooding, and all other related computer crimes will be dealt with immediately and in fullest cooperation with local and federal law enforcement. Also, posting copyrighted software, music, etc. is forbidden (for example, linking MP3s of bands other than your own). Also included in this is harrassment -- for example, encouraging people to call someone on the phone, flood a website/mailbox, etc., because they were mentioned in a linked article. (See also "messages containing private information" below.)
Hate speech: Criticism is not hate speech, but inflammatory comments directed at a particular ethnic group, sexual orientation, religion, etc., are unacceptable.
Messages containing only broken links or broken images: Images that become Red X's with no hope of ever being restored are always removed.
Messages containing private information: We are aware that most of this information can be found using Whois, or Google, or a phone book - however, posts containing email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses, credit card numbers, etc., are not allowed. (See "messages exhorting others to commit illegal acts" above, in particular the harassment section.)
Trolling other AP members: Unfortunately, disagreements can and will happen - but there is no need for them to become personal. Forum accounts come with an "Ignore" feature. If posts from a particular user are intolerable, they may be added to your personal ignore list. Personal attacks made by anyone including name calling, threats, and any other form of directed attacks against other users will result in suspension of posting. Especially if it is about a staff member.
Repeatedly reposting something that was deleted: Usually posts are removed for a reason (see above). Reposting it repeatedly, or complaining about it (also see above) is not recommended. Reposting a deleted inline image as a link instead is generally OK (also also see above). Posting something on behalf of someone else that was banned is also uncool.
The following types of non-message-posting actions can also get you banned from AP: Attempting to hack, flood, DoS, or otherwise compromise AP system security, or the security of any site mentioned/linked via AP. Logfiles will be sent to the appropriate ISPs and law enforcement immediately.
Stealing or guessing other people's passwords, giving or loaning your password to another users, or otherwise using or sharing accounts that aren't yours. Attempting to create extra accounts, or to use someone else's account, to evade bans.
Spamming. Worth mentioning twice.
No need to type a "hey, look at me - I'm new" post, use the 'Welcome Wagon' post (STICKY) instead.
We no longer need anymore threads about "What is Punk?," "Who Sold Out?" or Street Team posts, seriously - if you're on the street team for a band .. most of the people here have heard of them already.
Don't bring an elitist attitude. Try and respect everyone's opinions on music. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean someone else can't - deal with that.
If you have problems, questions, comments - feel free to ask.
Please do not post if you don't have anything positive to add to the community here, or if you are just here to start arguments and fights with other people. It's not neccessary.
Have fun and enjoy yourselves.
Obviously there are some grey areas here and there, and different moderators may have slightly different interpretations. Remember, moderators are unpaid volunteers with other day jobs, and sometimes don't get to things as quickly as they should. That doesn't mean that something that isn't acceptable that stays up is suddenly acceptable, it just means we all got a little too drunk the night before and weren't paying close enough attention.
