View Full Version : Favorite Tarantino Movie and reasons why, etc.

Here's mine
-Pulp Fiction (just amazing, it's contributed more phrases to American culture than any other movie in the last 10 years)
-Kill Bill (it was originally tended to be a single movie with both volumes at once but even if Vol. 2 sucks, it won't, Vol. 1 is good enough to cover both)
-Reservoir Dogs (a classic, but Tarantino was just beginning to find his niche with this and finally struck it with Pulp Fiction)
-Jackie Brown (a little disappointing considering Tarantino's standards, but on a basic movie level, it is a great great movie)
-never seen any of Tarantino's other work (My Best Friend's Birthday, Four Rooms, etc.) but I included it as a option anyhow

First of all, Tarantino is by far my favorite director and I think all of his films are incredible, so it's difficult to rank them. But for me I think it goes:
1. Reservoir Dogs (Classic, so many great moments)
2. Kill Bill Vol. 1 (if 2 is as good or better, which I think it will be, then the movie as a whole will become my favorite of his)
2. Pulp Fiction (another classic, tied with kill bill and almost better than reservoir dogs)
4. Jackie Brown (i still love this movie and think it's extremely underrated, it has an intricate plot and great dialogue)

pulp fiction is my favorite QT movie at the moment. however, if kill bill vol 2. is as good as i hear it is, then vol. 1 & 2 will probably be my favorite tarantino movie. after that reservoir dogs (it doesn't even seem like a new director made it, it's amazing) and the jackie brown (fucking great movie).

1. Jackie Brown.... By far one of the greatest film stories ever recorded, although I’m well aware he didn't write it, he did do an incredible job interpreting the book into a film...
2. Reservoir Dogs...for obvious reasons..
3. Dusk till Dawn...mixing horror and "tarantinoism" is just fantastic...
4. Pulp Fiction...perfect example of intermingling stories, which most directors butcher...
5. True Romance...although he didn't direct it he wrote a wonderful script that unfortunately Tony Scott was unable to reproduce to the standards it really disserved...
6. Kill Bill…I personally hate “kung Fu” movies so I bring a bias to this film to begin with, and I thought Uma was just pure bad in this film….so in turn this is probably my least favorite of his (directly his) films..
7. Natural Born Killers….Ok script….too bad the idiot that is oliver stone had to ruin it….

Pulp Fiction without a doubt shouldn't even be a contest. This movie is absolutely brilliant i loved the story and everything about it, originality at its best. I also love all the theories about what was in the briefcase. I also heard yesterday that he going to make a movie with the 2 Vega boys (John Travolta and Michael Madsen) this will be incredible.

Nah, he's decided against making that movie becuase the movie would take place before the events of Pulp Fiction, and Travolta and Madsen have gotten older, so Tarantino doesn't think it would make sense.

Kill Bill has to be my favorite becuase his movies just keep getting better and better. I love the order in which he places the scenes in his movies. You can never get bored sitting in one of his movies. He is a genius!
Then next I gotta say Resevior Dogs. The ear chopping scene is classic.
Pulp Fiction next - "how do i know which wallet is yours?" "Its the one that says Bad Mothafucker!!"
Then Jackie Brown.. another great movie.
I can't wait to see kill bill vol. 2 I'm going tonight... everyone make sure you see it and dont forget to post your opinions!

from dusk til dawn was written by Quentin but it is really Robert Rodriguez's film. But I see where you're going with this, i guess you could count what he wrote as well.

Kill Bill is probably my favorite (however, I havnt seen Jackie Brown yet). However, Kill Bill only if you combine both and watch one after the other. Heres Volume 1 with these amazing visuals full of sword fighting action, cut to anime story-enhancing 'flashbacks', layerd with a kickass soundtrack. Cut to the second one: substance! A love story. More amazing visuals.
Pulp Fiction is like an autumn tree's branches undressing (...dont ask).
Reservoir Dogs - 1st film. Do I even need to comment on this one?

Dusk till Dawn was awesome. Such a breath of fresh air as far as horror films are concerned. George Clooney fucking owned that role. "Everybody...be cool. YOU...be cool."

pulp fiction was the shit, jackie brown was weak, haven't seen kill bill 1 or 2 yet but planning on it,true romance was only written by tarantino but it was great, from dusk till dawn was okay for what it was, resevior dogs was good but it's over-rated.

I put Reservior Dogs, but shit that was a hard one. Tarantino is the greatest, I love every film I've seen that has even a little to do with him. I haven't seen Jackie Brown or Natural Born Killers or From Dusk Till Dawn, but I'm going to buy one or the other this weekend. Kill Bill rules, and Pulp Fiction is a classic. True Romance is great (especially when he shoots the pimp, haha). But Reservior Dogs made it cuz it was the first Tarantino movie I had the pleasure of seeing and it was killer then, and I can't get enough of it, even now. QT is the greatest.

i love his movies, but goddamn i hate seeing him in interviews, he's way too quirky and loud and his ego is bigger than his chin, however if I made movies as good as his, I'd probably have a big ego too.
And just recently I saw From Dusk Till Dawn, and I must say it felt like a Tarantino movie for like the first 40 minutes, then something happened, I don't know if it was the vampires but I stopped enjoying it as much as I was. Some of the horror was good, but they should've stayed out of the computer generated effects and the band playing with body parts was just ridiculous. I know it was intended to be over the top but that just bothered me. The blood in Kill Bill was supposed to be over the top but I actually sort of liked it. The gore in From Dusk Till Dawn, it felt as if they were trying to make it realistic. Clooney was superb however, and Tarantino, whose acting I despised from his small role in Pulp Fiction that seemed way too overdone, actually impressed me with the whole psychopathic rapist thing. Goddamn though, Clooney was cool as fuck in that movie though, "be cool, you BE COOL"
Natural Born Killers I remember seeing at a very young age and it totally desensitized the way I look at violence in movies and gave me freaky ass nightmares for awhile. I do remember enjoying it however.

lol pretty much. I mean the guy writes genius dialogue, I mean I look forward to conversations in Tarantino movies more than actual action which proves he writes amazing stuff, just the way he played Jimmy in Pulp Fiction, he went a little overboard using "******" i thought and he just didn't pull off the conversation in a realistic way. Just my opinion. I thought he was excellent in From Dusk Till Dawn and his small part in Reservoir Dogs though.

05/01/04, 03:53 PM
Im going to have to disagree with you. I think that Jimmy is my favorite character the he has played. I think that ending chapter in Pulp Fiction is just crazy. But i do look foward to the conversations way more than the action in the movies. I mean in Resevoir Dogs my favorite scenes are the breakfast scene and the scene where Mr. Blonde cuts off the policemans ear. I think he shows that everyone is the same no matter what they do. Even people are bank robbers or hired hitmen they still talk about the same stupid shit everyone elese does. I just think the QT is one of the best casting directors EVER. I mean would Pulp Fiction have been good with anyone but Sam Jackson or John Travolta...I think not

from dusk till dawn is awesome. i love both halves of the movie (although they feel like two totally different movies). i love the horror aspect though and just the cheesiness of it all because it really reminds me of the evil dead movies (and those are some of my favorites).

Do you guys think From Dusk Til Dawn would have been a better movie had Quentin directed. I'm not real sure, because the first 40 minutes of it felt like a Quentin movie, and I've never seen anything remotely considered horror done by Tarantino, so I don't really know how he would've approached the horror. I've seen other movies by Robert Rodriguez that I have liked (the El Mariachi trilogy, his Four Rooms segment, From Dusk Til Dawn of course), their directing methods are similar in some aspects, different in others and overall I think Tarantino is a better director, but it's hard to say how From Dusk Till Dawn would've turned out had QT directed it.

Heh, Kill Bill is quite an epic movie, but just gotta love Pulp Fiction for the dialogue. Kill Bill had such amazing emotion and action sequences which made up for a lack of classic Tarantino dialogue. I was glad there was finally some pop culture references and better dialogue in Vol. 2, Vol. 1 didn't feel like a Tarantino movie because of the lack of Tarantino style dialogue. Reservoir Dogs is a classic in its own rite, I just gotta stick with Pulp Fiction though.

i think the scenes in kill bill vol 2...
1) where the assassin goes to kill beatrix but beatrix disuades her by telling here she's pregnant.
2) when beatrix goes to kill bill and finds bill and her daughter doing a play-pretend shootout.
...are the best things QT has ever written. except for that whole part in pulp fiction...
"what country you from"
"what?"
"what ain't no country i've ever heard of, they speak english in what?"
"what?"

in my opinion, pulp fiction is his greatest. i enjoy all his movies, but pulp fiction will always be one that stands out in my mind. it just has such great dialogue. half of the dialogue is pointless to the story, but thats the genius of it. its just natural talking. i felt some moments of dialogue in kill bill seemed too rehearsed. but i still loved that movie too. pulp fiction rules.

Ive seen all his movies and pulp fiction is by far his best. This movie brought back John Travolta. I love QT even though a lot of people say he steals some of his ideas (and he does borrow some) still this man is what inspired me to go into film.

Kill Bill Volume 2 is his best film, despite the fact that Volume 1 is more entertaining. Pulp Fiction is a close second to Volume 2, and honestly, Reservoir Dogs isn't really that great, especially compared to it's main influence, The Killing.

Just because he has become the biggest tool in the world by slapping his name on every foreign film released in the U.S. that he has any interest in (see: Chungking Express where his name is at least 5 times larger than the director Wong Kar Wai's) and has gotten to the point where he doesn't even try to conceal that he rips off films more than any filmmaker in history (Kill Bill, Grindhouse) still doesn't take away from the fact that Pulp Fiction is a masterpiece and one of the 200 best American films ever made, and as Mark has already said, one of if not the best film of the 90's.
