I started a similar thread to this with Tarantino and considering thse are 2 very different, however, my favorite directors I started a thread for Shymalan
what is your favorite by him?
here's mine
1. sixth sense (very creepy and emotional without going too over the top, and who can't appreciate such a ending? gotta love shymalan for his endings)
2. unbreakable (very underrated on shymalan's standard and basic movie standards and i think he knew exactly what he was doing with this one but people just didn't know what to think of it, i thought it was great)
3. signs (i like this movie but i think he was really just going into the mainstream with this one and there are cheesy parts, therefore it is at the bottom of my list, though it did have very scary moments)

well I can only wait for his next movie, The Village, which looks quite amazing, but time will tell.

I liked the Sixth Sense the best, even though I predicted the ending after the first 5 minutes of the movie.
I never saw Unbreakable and I thought Signs was good, but not as good as most people made it out to be.

Sign’s was awful and the CGI was amateurish at best...Unbreakable was filmed well but was based on a rather stupid idea....So my pick is Sixth Sense which was a great idea (although I’ve heard its a blatant rip off of a bunch of Japanese/Taiwanese films) and was perfectly acted and filmed....

signs is one of the worst films i have ever sat through. it was all like, err... have faith and shit so when your wife dies she can tell you how to kill the most moronic alien species in the universe. i mean fuck, what kind of jackass alien invasion were they putting on? hey we're all allergic to water, in-fact its the most lethal substance known to us, sooo..i was thinking that planet over there. we should totally try and invade it, because its covered by 71% hydrogen dioxide.

lol, that's what maddox was saying about it, a race of species who's weakness is water coming to a planet abundant of moisture in the air but don't fall until a glass of water is spilled on them. Yea I admit that and the whole faith thing was really dumb and drawn out but I still mdly enjoyed it.

I didn't like Signs at all.

But I loved The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. I thought Unbreakable was far underrated.

I think they were both amazing as far as screenplay. And as a director, I think Shymalan (if that's how you spell his name) does great work. He does what so few directors do in scary movies these days. He can actually scare you without the standard blood-and-guts crap.

I'm excited for The Village, too.

Sixth Sense is the best of those three, I can't wait for The Village.

yous guys know that the end of the village is that it isn't set in the past at all right?
i mean the trailor gives it away, its just a story basically about the amish.

i.e. the creatures are just people that are "city folk"

i think a lot of people overlook signs. yes the plot is a little dull and/or has some holes in it. but look at the way night took a very cliche story about aliens and an alien invasion & set it in this small town with this small family. there are no big explosions and hotile takeovers that you witness, just the reactions of this family to this worldly event. It makes you feel like you are right there with this family & you experience all the emotions they do. ok thats enough, just my opinion anyways.

revamping a cliche' and thinking your audience's intelligence is non, cancel each other out. and therefore, it was shit.

i have no patience or respect for a director or screenwriter who does not respect his/her audience.

unbreakable - all time favourite but well i didnt really get to enjoy the "surprise" ending in the sixth senses because of stupid friends spoiling the movie

yea supposedly after that leaked out he changed the end of the script but who knows, maybe it's still in there.

apparently he did not change the ending, according to some early reviews.
