they did a tour with state radio (http://www.myspace.com/stateradio) a while ago, and i fell in love with them when i heard them. this is a band that i would recommend to absolutely anyone, no matter what type of music you normally listen to. incredibly easy to get on board with, their music is an incredible mixture of reggae, folk, pop, and rock. any fans?

i love the footage in that video. the melody to this song sounds very familiar, not sure if i've heard this tune before or if it is a little similar to something, can't quite put my finger on it yet. enjoyable though, i'll check some more

nah not rudd, not sure what it is. but now knowing they're an auzzie group, i probably just heard that song many moons ago & didn't realize who it was at the time haha. wonderful video footage though

it's an amazing video. i'm listening to 'water' right now, off of goodtimes, such a captivating song. it literally stops me doing whatever i'm doing at the time to pay attention to it, no matter what. absolutely amazing.

I feel like I've heard this melody before as well, it's very familiar, but I like it. I'll have to check these guys out some more, but I'll probably need some help finding albums, Courtney. :-)

i have no idea what you people think it sounds like besides xavier rudd to me haha. crazy. but i'm glad you like it chris, and most of the albums are on that streetlamps/up the punx site if you're looking for them.

"the biggest lie i ever told" slightly reminds me of "ex-girlfriend" by no doubt for some reason.

i've been listening to ziggurats today. it is absolutely the perfect album to wake up to and start the day off with. really sets a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere and gives you a reason to be happy from the get-go.

i'm really not a fan of music videos in the least bit at all, but i can't stop watching theirs. absolutely amazing images in all of them, such a strong message in all of their work. they're steadily climbing to the top of my top artists on last.fm... haha.

haven't listened to learn yourself enough yet, but i can already tell the rhythm section doesn't seem as strong as morning sun, which is my favourite so far in these early days. solid band though

morning sun is an album that's really easy to get into, no matter what type of music you listen to and is a really really good place to start with them, but it seems to me like learn yourself is more "them".. there's more songs off of it that i can just really get into and understand what they're putting across with the album.
Excellent song. I love it.
most of their albums are on that up the punx site if i sent you that. i'd start with morning sun or learn yourself, but i'm in love with all their albums so it wouldn't really matter to me haha.

on a clear day i can see far ahead in front of me,
the sky above imagines a god, but on another day i'm...
and when i fall the hurt won't show up on me i only hope,
and if i follow you along well then i'll rise up..
favorite track off of morning sun... for now haha.

it's a powerful video! the song is called 'freedom', off of learn yourself. should definitely look into picking that up if you enjoyed that.

Hmmm, Where do I start with the Beautiful Girls eh??
They started as jam band and they all hail from the same part of Sydney where I live. They were quite active in the local music scene until every one grew tired of Mat McHughs prima donna behavior. He was often known to walk off the stage in mid-set if he got heckled. His band name is aptly fitting as he is a big fucking girl.
It is sad that bands like the Beautiful Girls and Xavier Rudd are getting the heavy international presence and promotion. There are much better bands more deserving of the honor.
Listen to Angus and Julia Stone or John Butler if you are into this roots/folk stuff.

...yet you posted Johnny Cash and Iron & Wine (both of whom everyone's heard of) in the folk thread instead of those.

i did bump the angus and julia stone thread and the only person that replied in it commented with "meh", while this thread is obviously getting more attention. it's ridiculous to tell people who deserves to be listened to more. xavier rudd is one of, if not my top most favorite artist of all time. i'm not going to turn him off to listen to angus and julia stone, who can barely keep me awake sometimes. and the way mat mchugh acts has no influence on whether or not i enjoy his music. two completely seperate things.

john butler is pretty decent live, but soo repetitive on disk. but each to their own. i'd rather rudd & other roots artists were getting some international praise than a lot other bands out there. they're all talented, worked hard for many years, tour relentlessly, stay real to their ethics, etc. i say good on them, it's deserved. keep the peace
Craig! You sacrificed your gigantic avatar! :-0
haha i know! it was such a tough call, but i adore this avatar like no other. be cool if it was huge again though

haha I gotcha lound and clear. It'd be nice to see the "classic" avatar come back, of Tim and his guitar.
I agree, having the huge avatars again would be fun.

Is it a rare album?

07/13/08, 03:48 PM
i really have no clue. all i know about them is that it's the drummer from NMH, and some chick on violin haha. i've never heard of anyone else that listens to them, or even knows who they are, so i have no clue. i'll find it on cd eventually... there's just more albums i'd rather buy on cd first.
CellarGhosts
07/13/08, 03:49 PM
ah, I gotcha. good luck finding it! check ebay maybe?

07/13/08, 03:52 PM

all i ever did was waste my time,
sat upon my porch but i'm feelin' fine.
the time goes but the memory still shows,
so for now i guess i'm getting me another one,
so it seems.
learn yourself and morning sun are two of the best albums i've heard in a while.
