View Full Version : high school blows- help me with my project
hey guys- so i got suspended from school and i didn't use my 10 days off to do this project i have due in 4 days. the thing is i have to work everyday until then so i have a feeling it's going to be crappy. i'm doing a semiotic analysis paper on filesharing and downloading music v. buying cds, so if yall could leave me comments on your preference and why, that would be awesome. also- tell me if you think downloading music is "wrong" and whatev. just give feedback on the subject. i appreciate it a lot!

damn, that's sux big ass. i'll just try and help you out and say that i don't think downloading music is wrong, if it wasn't for kazaa or anything like that so many bands today would never get their name out their as easily, or at all. downloading music leads to buying cd's. you download it, you like it, you buy the cd. if that made any sense.

There are a lot of bands that I have downloaded a few of their songs songs off of Kazza, and that caused me to buy the cd because I liked them a lot. So that's why I download..if I hear of a new band or something I'll download a few songs and then buy the cd if I like it, so in the end it's really helping.

Its good for the really small bands since they can get their name out to everyone and the huge bands shouldnt care too much unless they are greedy bastards. However I feel some of the more established bands which arent that big lose out a bit, they are often the ones who deserve to make the most money yet don't.

Um well, this is my process...I hear of bands on the internet...I dl their songs on Kazaa, then If I like them, I go to Target or Sam Goody and buy the CD... :wink3: so in fact...like everyone else said, Kazaa and all the other music dling shit...helps bands get their music out there and it leads to CD sales....thats just what I think anyways, maybe i'm wrong...

I use file sharing and programs like limewire and kazaa as "trial runs" for bands I hear about. What I do is download a few highlighted songs by the band in question and then if I like them enough, I'll spend 20+ dollars on their CD. Im not going to buy a CD just because I heard of a band or saw them live. And as a musician myself, if i didnt have the internet Id be screwed.

i download music. yes i'm a pirate bah! but i have made a written promise to buy all albums from songs i've downloaded (or well most of them) as soon as i get the money. personally i like buying albums because it makes me feel like a True Fan of the band. but i also like to hear the music before i buy it. like say for an example i went out bought a crappy CD that only has one good song. I've just wasted about 14 dollers on a lame cd with only one good song, when i could eaither, a) download the song illigally for free, and risk getting my ass sued by the RIAA or b) download the song to an iPod or whatever Legally for a doller.
so downloading is good and bad.
downloading is also good if you want to hear about Unsigned bands who havent made it big yet. like on PureVolume.com all those songs are Legal downloads, and it helps spread the word out about those bands, thus making them more noticed.
i don't use Kazaa any more so i'm not sure if they have songs of Independant singers
hope that helps.
hey thanks guys- i was trying to get two worlds for my research- the world of unsigned bands and "underground" music (for the most part) and i also left a message on metallica's (mainstream, anti-piracy) website but they all replied telling me to do my "own damn work." sooo obviously they didn't get the point that i was doing a poll for my research. whatever. thanks everyone!
