Nah I have to listen to Yeasayers first. Then this band. But dinner before that. So...sometime.

they are a watered down version of yeasayer (http://absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=315175). not entirely unenjoyable, but they just make me want to go listen to yeasayer.

IWasaCamera

Friend And Foe is easily their best yet.

As for the comparison stated earlier, Menomena's tunes are rooted in electronic/instrumental loops whereas Yeasayer mainly dip their toes in "world music" influences. Quite different.

they're fairly similar from what i've heard. for one, the vocalists both sound a lot alike as do the harmonies they both have in their songs. yes they're very different, but in a way, they do sound like a less-worldly/traveled version of yeasayer. they're listed as similar artists on quite a few sites as well.

No worries, it's just odd to see all these threads about artists no one would discuss with me last year.

Where being listed as similar is concerned, I could rattle off an endless string of awful comparisons listed on music sites. They simply need to lump acts who share common qualifiers together for the sake of a related artists section. "Experimental" likely being the adjective in question for these two.

honestly, i think that might have happened to me the first few times i listened to it but then i started playing it from the middle and saw it in a whole new light haha. 'no need to worry' is one of my top 3 from that album, and 'red cave' is a great closer, but starts off a little slow.

Menomena are a great live band also, something I'm surprised hasn't come yet.

They're a three-piece that play about 9 instruments between the three of them, sometimes all at once.

They all sing, one guy does loops/keyboards/guitar, one guy does sax/bass/guitar/moog with his feet, one guy does all the percussion.

In one song, the guy who does most of the singing plays a sax strapped to a stand, while playing a bass with his hands and a moog with his feet. While singing. It's a real thrill to see them play, and they're tight as hell.

The relationship with MPP is the vocal virtuosity that favours a lot of disjunct movement. However, in terms of the particular era we're in, I simply think people are more accepting of the bizarre form of rock Menomena creates.

i have a hard time pin pointing their sound which spans multiple genres throughout albums, sometimes throughout songs. i think they are often more complex instrumentally than vocally. i suppose what you're saying is relatively true, though

I don't know how this would be evaluated outside of an individual's own personal experiences, but, interesting claim. I feel like that is what Radiohead has done as well. Honestly, discussing Anco's impact with me would be pointless, seeing as I don't agree with their importance to music the way many people do. Like I never had to desire to listen to MPP, and I may or may not in the future.
