I enjoy playing When You Were Young on Rock Band.
Love them and can't wait for new stuff
sawdust was amazing.

hot fuss was a fantastic album
sams town disappointed me.
Sam's Town is way better than Hot Fuss. Theyre both pretty good pop rock / entry level indie records

i'm going to pretend this thread is about the 90s emo band called The Killers because they didn't completely suck.

Sams town is actually my favorite album by them.
Really? well to each their own. I'm still indifferent about sawdust. Some of the tracks are really good, but some are sub par, so I can't decide.

Eh, i heard the singles from Hot Fuss, listened to the singles while i at worked Pac Sun off Sam's town, and wasn't that impressed. Is Sawdust a new third CD?

They've been my favorite band since 2005, I'm so excited for the new album. I always wonder about what their theme will be for this though, hopefully something like the Hot Fuss era

I'll be annoyed if the new album sounds more like Sams town than Hot Fuss, I want them to progress, but more that direction

I'd be annoyed if they tried to make it pop-punk and stick with the trend thats going on:-D
I see what your saying, but I just personally didn't like sams town, maybe they should do more of that electronic stuff.

Really? I thought Sam's Town was a huge and good progression for them, even if it was an inconsistent album.
Edit: Question answered.

I still liked Sam's Town. It had its share of flaws, but not such a bad step for the band.
Two new songs played, I think they're both great:
Neon Tiger for the first time at the Highline Ballroom in New York City on July 29th, 2008 :
YU2o43vP-8E
their new song Spaceman at the Highline Ballroom in New York City on July 29th, 2008 :

Oh one more
Sweet Talk performed for the first time live at the Highline Ballroom in New York City on July 29th 2008:

I heard this "All The Things I've Done" song the other day and was a little surprised to see it was by the Killers. I'm really digging this song and it's given me the incentive to check them out further and see if I get anything new out of it this time around.

Their first album is really good, Courtney. Their other one, though, Sam's Town, isn't so good. It has it's moments, but as a whole it's very uneven and lightweight. Basically they tried to do what bands like The Hold Steady and Gaslight are doing, only not so successfully.

I quite liked Sam's town & I really liked hot fuss when it first came out - my main problem with this band is I find them very disposable none of their albums really had any lasting effect with me
I still really dig certain songs though
They're headlining the Saturday @ reading festival which I'm attending so I'll probably check them out as it's either them or gallows or manic street preachers & I'm not that much of a fan of the other 2

Sam's Town is a solid record, the only way you can be let down by it is if you were expecting Hot Fuss 2.
They write good singles.

For the most part I agree. I think "Hot Fuss" is a really solid record, though the singles were just huge, and sort of overshadowed the rest of the album, I guess.

i love them i've been listening to them from the start
Agreed but every time one of their tunes (usually Mr Brightside or When You Were Young) comes on the radio at work I am happy.
They've got a couple other good jams on Hot Fuss but overall the singles are the best.
They're kicking it old school I guess.

Yeah I actually like it better than the original.
Sam's town is a great record, I've been listening to it all week. It tells a really good story. I can't wait for Day and Age.
I love the first half of Hot Fuss so much. The first time I heard it I knew it was just huge. The second half tails away though on repeated listens.
Sam's Town let me down. I really like 'When You Were Young' but I just didn't get the direction they were taking and too many songs pushed Brandon's vocals way further than they were meant to. He just didn't sound good on stuff like 'Read my Mind'. I did like a few bits, 'Uncle Jonny' and 'Confessions of a King' particularly.
I do really like 'Human' though. It just sounds like they aren't doing something they have done previous but it really suits them. Backing it.

I think Sams Town is a really great record, but for me the catchyness of Hot Fuss was what it was all about. And I'm looking foward to the new album also.

100% accurate. Sam's Town wasn't a worse album, just a very different one, and I definitely think most people just wanted more of the same with a little bit of change and what they got was a totally new record. I personally feel they're both solid releases for different reasons.. and both have ups and downs.
Favorite Hot Fuss tracks - On Top, Smile Like You Mean It
Sam's Town tracks - This River Is Wild (by a mile the best), Bones, Why Do I Keep Counting?
I can't stand Bling actually.
I'm looking forward to Day & Night... it'll be interesting to see what they do next.

Honestly, i'm not too pleased about "Human", its a bit too poppy for my likes (more along the lines of Hot Fuss, most notably "Somebody Told Me"). "Spaceman," however, sounds really legit though and the other new songs I've heard performed live sound fantastic. I think Day & Age is going to be nice mix of their previous two full-lengths.
On a side note, how good is "Romeo And Juliet" off of Sawdust?
On a side note, how good is "Romeo And Juliet" off of Sawdust?
It's good. It's more subdued than most of their songs, but that fits the song better. It's a respectful and introspective cover. Even if you don't think it's as good as the original (and I don't know personally...it's good enough to be on par I think, but I don't want to say it's better) you'd have to admit they didn't ruin a classic at the least.
Aaaaand it's out, awesome so far :-d

People can like this band and that's okay. I never have been able to.
Leak already, dammit
Why can't you just be patient? What's it worth listening to a few leaked songs here and there. Albums used to be meant to listen the whole way through, and some bands still make it that way like The Killers. Just wait until November 24 and buy the CD and listen to it the whole way through.
All of you that can't bear to wait are pathetic. What does an actual CD mean to you if you just go and download the leaked versions? Nothing. You FAIL at life.

Awesome review. Spot on.
Very well written, I haven't heard the album myself though so I have no personal input on it yet.
Christ...this is cringe inducing. It's like the sonic equivalent of watching Spiderman 3. Even though I greatly prefer their sound on Sam's Town over this and Hot Fuss, I wouldn't mind this new sound if the songwriting was up to par...but it's not.

I heard the opposite. He doesn't like big egos because one of his influences, Noel Gallagher has a quite large enough ego and Flower's finds that a flaw.
