Hey guys,
Just a quick poll wondering who likes who out of the primarily instrumental guitarists out there.
I know plenty of other bands have great guitarists who create some instrumental songs, like John Petrucci from Dream Theater, but the ones in the poll are most well known for their instrumental work.
Forgive me if i've forgotten a major one...this is off the top of my head..thanks.
Vote away!

For me it was a battle between Vai and Satriani, just because I think they are the most tasteful out of all these guys. I went with Vai for for 2 reasons though:
1) He transcribed Zappa's music and got to be in the Mothers of Invention because of it.
2) Budnick gave Dina his guitar pick in an episode of Salute Your Shorts.

I went with Buckethead because he had that song in Guitar Hero 2 I couldn't beat and it was the shit!
Actually, I went with Yngwie because he's a fucking guitar beast.
"Jordan" by Buckethead is totally not representative of his stuff. He recorded the solo for the song--which is a lot slower in its original iteration--JUST FOR GUITAR HERO, meaning that while he can shred and is indeed a fucking beast, it is not something by which his entire catalogue should be judged.
Yngwie should be in Guitar Hero...

But if we're going strictly with more rock based stuff, I guess I'd go with Vai, just for the sheer weirdness he brings to his compositions. Anyone heard the Flexable album? It's frickin' nuts.
How about Michael Hedges? He was absolutely amazing, but almost no one knows who he was. Damn Windam Hill and their new age hippie selves not knowing how to properly promote an acoustic guitarist.

yeah i shouldve been more specific and said 'instrumental rock' rather than just 'instrumental'.
Vai is a great guitarist...dont own flexable but i have a couple of songs off it such as the attitude song. he does bring weirdness and likes to experiment...but personally im less for the weird stuff. he is incredible though.
notice a lot of people saying 'other' without saying who..which is kind of annoying. but a couple of intrumental rock guitarists i forgot to mention (and don't think have been mentioned in the thread) are rusty cooley and jason becker! wish jason could still play. was incredibly talented.
