Drew is an asshole. He would pester every reviewer here and when they told him they weren't interested in his shitty site, he would just harass them and insult their work in an incredibly rude & immature fashion. Plus, he thinks he's got something going with that site, which just steals new posts from here and not to mention, if you guys didn't post your reviews on AP.net ... no one would ever read them.

Personally, I don't care if you post your reviews from there on here - shit, it will help you more in the long run anyway.

The one I spoke to him about that I had a problem with was duffmanetc. whatever the rest of his name is hahaha

I didn't know that he was insulting people's work. That pisses me off even more.

I got a PM from him a while back. He offered me a staff position at his website but didn't respond because I never got around to it. A few days later I posted in my blog about it because I was flattered by the offer, but said I probably would say no. I also posted in a chat thread that I disliked the site's layout because I thought it looked like a metal site. Somebody from that site apparently found both my blog and my post and sent them to him. He PMs me all pissed off. First he tells me that the original PM he sent me offering the staff position was spam. I respond by saying "Cruel." Then he follows up with this gem.

Well I know the zine looks like A metal site right now, but it's getting re-designed and I don't like people passing off the site as just some lame site that you "Really Really don't think you'll be a part of." A polite no is good enough. Ya know what I mean?

The guy has nerve. I never said a bad thing about his website besides the fact that I didn't want to work for it. I was going to be quiet about this, but if he's being a cock and insulting AP's reviewers, fuck him. He should be permanently IP banned from this website so he can't harass anyone else.

Does he really? hahaha no, he wasn't complaining to me, others have - ones who don't write often, actually. That is funny but I just lost respect for the way he handled people dismissing his site. The way he did it was just very immature.

Honestly, as much as I like the user reviewers who post there ... I think they've been duped. It's a shitty rip-off of AP.net - it's amazing how far superior we are to every other music site around. Don't worry though, dude ... he'll be staying on his site forever now. AP.net doesn't want him.

When I look at the reviews and the front page of this website, I frequently see music that is far from the realm of pop punk. Even if you were right about AP sticking to "trendy" bands, of course they're going to cover bands that people want to hear about.

AP has also helped bands become trendy. That's not conforming to only covering trendy bands. A lot of the groups that get exposure here become relevant in the music scene.

They're all within the realm of rock or pop though. Pitchfork covers such a wider variety of music that it's obscene. It's not the "indie" site everyone tags them to be. They do features on all sorts of different music, plus their interviews are of a lot more varied nature, instead of just being poppy punk bands.

and as for "helping bands get trendy", i can't really think of any good bands this site has pushed to get popular. oh cool, they hyped the Format. *yawn*

I don't know why you're getting so defensive. I didn't say the people running this site suck or don't know what they're doing because they're good at what they do, pushing pop punk, but you can't claim this is the best music site out there.

I won't disagree with you about the majority of the material covered here is in the realm of rock and pop, but for a site that is clearly devoted to a certain type of music (pop punk), we have a pretty impressive amount of material covering other genres.

not really since most of it is just the trendiest of whatever scene it is.

no offense to the staff, but the features popmatters does about music slay anything they've written (they're quite good). which is why i can't go along with the idea that this site is the best music site.

1) You don't get as highly ranked as AP is by covering bands nobody cares about. I agree with you that a lot of the bands covered here aren't so great, but you gotta give credit to the site in that they know how to stay relevant.

No argument there. But the reason AP is so highly ranked/well known is because their finger is on the pulse of what people who listen to pop rock and pop punk are interested in. That's worth something.
