Who?
This instrumental five-piece from Brooklyn, NY craft complex, uplifting soundscapes, drawing from many different genres to create a seamless musical journey.
How is it?
From it's battle-cry introduction, this album draws the listener in with it's upbeat, triumphant instrumental tunes. Full of energy and hooks, the songs never drag on in typical instrumental fashion. With no ambient pedal-playing or repeating-the-same-riff-forever, the band keeps things short and sweet, allowing the songs to grab you and hold on. The band brings a little bit of everything to the table, from math-rock to indie pop, and even some metal virtuosity every now and then, but the songs don't suffer from awkward mash-ups or left-field transitions. Every song is it's own unique entity, each one exploring different directions and emotions.
While the songs are mainly guitar-oriented, the band adds some exciting flourishes to their music, like "Anthem," and its synthesized string arrangement and the Postal Service-esque electronic opening to "Tickle Mountain." The band even occasionally breaks into joyous gang vocals, using their voices as another instrument in the mix.
Rockin' enough for people who aren't into instrumental music, but technically proficient and creative enough to get even the most jaded music snob to perk up and pay attention. With another EP, Sky Gardens, about to be released, and plans for a guest-vocalist album in the future, this busy little band may be on the verge of breaking out.
