View Full Version : I'm not really feeling the lawrence arms lately.

It's true. They used to be my absolute favorite band ever, times a million. Lately though, I've been finding myself rarely (if ever) in the mood to put on a tla album. It's weird. I guess my tastes have just gravitated more towards hardcore/thrash, bu whatever. I need to take my puppy out before i go to bed. I'm just throwing this out there.

Anyone else ever just stopped listening to one of their favorite bands ever, for no apparent reason?

Yeah I have pretty much stopped listening to FOB for around 5 or 6 months unless I am in a car or mowing a lawn. For some reason I just put them on when I am too lazy to change songs because I already know I like their music.

haha i gave up on listening to music while mowing the lawn because it's such a hassle and you can't really hear much anyway

I have some seemingly irreconcilable issues with FUCT but I have not given up on it yet haha. Wouldn't say I like the band any more or less than I use to, though.

To be honest, I don't listen to rap near as much as I used to.. I still have my favorite albums from the genre, but I haven't been going back to even those often.

I think it's less that I've grown out of the genre as a whole but more that there isn't much in terms of new albums that I enjoy and I've exhausted most of the older ones.

I find myself listening to less Pennywise, Lagwagon, and No Use For A Name. There's a few others, and I too used to listen to The Lawrence Arms a lot, but I haven't been lately. There have been times where I've gone through phases, and come back to bands, and end up liking them even more. Especially if they release a new album that gets me to remember exactly why I listened to the band in the first place.

man, just when im getting into the lawrence arms.

its natural i would like them though, the only thing that might repel someone with my music tastes is brendan's orgcore voice but voices dont turn me off, if the music's good i actually tend to like unusual voices even better than good voices because it sounds more honest.

I guess I've just leaned more from 90's punk toward more indie rock or post-rock. I think in time I'll relisten to it, after all; it's not like I've deleted it from my hard drive/sold their albums.

I'm laughing because Dookie was THE album that got me and a lot of my friends into music. They were also the first band I saw live. When a band has that kind of sentimental value, it's hard to not like them.

While Kerplunk is a really solid pop-punk album, it just doesn't have as much "character" or "identity" to it as Dookie and Insomniac do.

That being said, I think I might actually like Insomniac better than Dookie. I guess it depends on what mood I'm in.

I feel really underwhelmed when I hear Thursday now. Same with Alkaline Trio.

strangely enough my new found interest in [real] post-hardcore has made me appreciate WATT now more than i ever have. it's got more pop sensibility than post-hardcore tends to for sure, but i can hear the influence in it.

I'm still a huge Green Day fan. To me, Insomniac is one of the better pop-punk albums in the last 20 years - it just shows a different side to the band, the harder side if you will, while containing all the pop elements that have made them so popular.

Nimrod is also superb. I love Dookie as much as the next guy, but those two albums just show me how the band has remained so popular over the course of 15 years.

I agree, Insomniac is definitely the darker, more matured side of Green Day, which is probably why that album didn't do so hot when it was released, people were like "WHERE DID THE GOOFY IMMATURITY GO!?!?!".

I'm still not sure what I think of Nimrod. It's good but it's probably pretty far down on my Green Day albums list. At the moment, I'm thinking my ranking is:

Dookie > Insomniac > Warning > Kerplunk > American Idiot > Nimrod > Slappy Hours > Shenanigans

I've always thought Nimrod was one of their best, but it does some some filler. Warning is one of their better ones, too - so different from anything else they've done. Kerplunk>Insomniac>dookie>Slappy>Warning>Nimrod>American Idiot & I haven't heard Shenanigans

I'd say the only album I don't like is American Idiot but there are a few tracks I like

My only real gripe with Green Day is the damn eyeliner/skinny ties and shit they started donning with American Idiot. That being cast aside though, I still enjoy that album for the most part. "Jesus Of Suburbia", "Letterbomb" and "Whatsername" are some of my favorite Green Day songs.
