View Full Version : Underrated Video Games
Games that you've played that didn't quite breakthrough or feel more deserving of gameplay.
My pick: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
I wouldn't say it failed as it is a Castlevania game, but the depth and surprisingly good 2-D graphics for a game made for the PS1 make it a great play.

I wouldn't really say underrated, it's more so underappreciated and needs to be known more by people cause it's so fucking good. And one of my favorite games.
Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner
How is SotN underrated? It's arguably the most popular Castlevania game of all time.

Awesome levels, great music considering it's on Mega Drive, and really fun gameplay. Shame Sonic Team had to run Sonic into the ground before this series could get kicked off.

Second Sight. That game was bloody awesome. Yeah the controls were a little clunky, but in terms of storytelling and atmosphere, that game was tremendous. Completed it like three times.

Ristar was the shit. I'm about to play it again to bring back some memories. It's fun as hell too.

Hell yeah it was man. I loved the music level. Every time you delivered a metronome the music would build up more.

Hmm, well I was basing my opinion off of its rarity nowadays and I didn't catch to see much marketing or praise for it back in the day (given I was much younger). I didn't really follow the series after SotN and assumed the games were more successful. It's still a lost treasure in today's gaming world.
Another mention: Jet Moto 2

It's on XBLA and PSN to download, I'd hardly call it rare. I think the 3D Castlevanias that came after it really helped make it popular, since the 3D games sucked ass apparently (I have no idea, never owned a N64). As for the games now, I guess they are popular. I think people just accept new Castlevania games since they are all pretty much the same now. Every 2D Castlevania game that came out after SotN is based on the gameplay of SotN, so I think it's pretty big haha.

You should get it somehow...it is really good. My favorite fighting game ever. It's not 2d fighting, it's open/3d and the story mode is actually a story...it's partially a RPG. Plus the multiplayer is incredibly fun / competative. It's one of those games that you want to keep coming back to, lots of replayability.

I have a friend from Minnesota (had to) who plays this with others at parties and people drink significantly if they get scored on, depending on who scores (fat vs. skinny player). Fun stuff.

I don't think Rayman 2, Earthworm Jim, Ico, and Okami are necessarily underrated.
There is no way that SotN is overrated. One of the highest regarded games in PS1 history. In fact, I just got the Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP and am playing through it again for the first time in awhile.
How's this for some underrated games:

The multiplayer in these games were fucking killer.
Anyone out there ever play these two classics?

How is SotN underrated? It's arguably the most popular Castlevania game of all time.
Yeah man i was thinkin of the same thing, that game gets the credit it deserves.
Oh yeah

Maybe not underrated, but I maintain that this game was better than Mario Kart 64.

Why Nintendo haven't dusted off both Uniracers and Punch Out!, I'll never know.
the one for SNES was so awesome, but they haven't made one since then.

Thanks. Laaaame. I used to love that shit.
I'm downloading a version that says it will work on Macs. I hope it works.

but I do miss CrashFuck yeah, this game was the shit. CTR>Mario Kart 64. But if you've never played any of the CTR sequels, don't. They're shit. I think they were made by a different developer.

I 100%'d CTR as a kid. I loved that game and the first Crash trilogy. After that it went so downhill. The new Crash game isn't even Crash anymore, it's some gay Spyro clone.

After the third game the original developers, Naughty Dog, left to do Jak & Daxter. The company that took over fucked it up so bad that I cringe when I see Crash's face.
