I really want to get a part-time job outside campus, but my status is international student in the US, so it would be illegal to work outside the campus during my stay here. But do you know anyone who has nothing to do during summer holidays? I know almost any American students work during summer. I'm so sick of having no income :(
I knew a French guy while i was traveling in NY, he said he works off the book in Florida during summer. Well, I'm only trying to see if anyone has any off-the -book work experience, and how to find them. :whine:
Seriously most european countries do allow us international students to work outside school, for a limited hours per week. Why is America do special on this issue? I have too much time on my hands...
I just posted this in the general forum,. i guess personal life is more appropriate...

I'm not able to do something THAT illegal...just illegal to a degree i can stand.
If you have some muscles, you could try construction. I know friends who work construction illegally.
You always could search craigslist and make an ad. Perhaps babysitting?

ok maybe i'll try. but usually the managers will ask for your ssn and has a background check on you.
I used to submit my photos to an agency, they were only hiring people for a one-day shoot. Even that needs me pass the background check, damn! :-(

Or just suck dick for crack. No money involved but you have a habit that is supported by another habit. No money exchange required.

But if it starts to smell like shit, they might not take it at other places. =(

The combined smell of Purell and shit is terrible. That's what homeless drug addicts smell like every time they came to my old church.

yeah or if no one's said it, (sorry i'm too lazy to read through this) nannying. it's steadier than babysitting and you're paid off the books. i'd love to nanny if i could find a good family. but i love my job so i can't really complain either.

There are many limits though, such as you must only work in jobs in the same field as your major. I neither study computer science or engineering. There must be LOTS of internatioal students in California...
try and find a small diner or something or deli or something like that and go talk to the owner or manager. they may be willing to help you out. it wont be much, but it'll be something. or you could take everyone's advice and be a prosti.

Yeah I think that is true, there is way too many people living in LA alone. So thats a biggie. Plus a lot of people like to come down to California.
Yeah even people who are American citizens are having hard time finding jobs too lately.
