ok, so im thinking of pitching the idea of a 30 minute radio show to my college radio station. it is student run, so i'm thinking i could play like a half hour of punk. however, maybe some of you are on a college radio and could answer me these questions:
a) could i play only what i want the people to hear? or do you think there are playlists that they set up before hand?
b) do i have to go thru any special procedures to play songs from bands that are not signed to major records?
c) would i just play them off of cds? or what?
thanks for the help, im trying to get the feel for what i may be getting myself into. :wink3:

not really sure about most of those but i'm thinking of interning next semester and a friend of mine has a show...the only thing i know is that he has to censor the songs beforehand on his computer using like, music software, or whatever, before he can put it on the radio. although there really isn't that much cussing in punk...(he does a rap show. ugh)

This goes for my school...
a.) Your show = you can play whatever you want. The station will probably have a "most requested" list though.
b.) No, you should be able to play whatever. The station should have CDs already (a lot of major but also surprisingly a lot of indie), but if they don't have the one you want, just bring it in.
c.) Our station had stuff to play everything (CDs, tapes, minidiscs, even atracs)... but the easiest method, I thought, has always been through CDs because we had this multidisc player that would automatically stop after tracks, and that was convenient because with tapes, you have to manually stop it and change tapes, etc. while talkin on air. So I recommend CDs.
