A lot of pop-punk/powerpop these days seems pretty "dancy", but if you really want to dance listen to dance-punk!

What is dance-punk? Learn. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_punk)

Shy Child (http://www.myspace.com/shychildmusic) is awesome.

gang of four basically kicked the shit out of most bands in this genre. even when they got back together in '04, they were still sweet.

the word dance and the word punk coming together to form a word is just laughable man.

I guess i'd throw Family Force 5 in there. I saw them this past weekend and thought they put on a hell of a show. At first i thought they were just another pussy band that my best friend was draging me to go see. They were actually pretty good, now when Cobra Starship went on, that fucking drew the line.

Family Force Five is the last thing (well maybe not the last, but its down there) that I would think of when I hear the phrase "dance punk". Sure, they make me want to dance, but they are in no way punk. I wasn't too keen on Shy Child either, didn't really make me want to dance.

Although they may not be dance punk in any way, I'm currently thinking of Suburban Legends. (more like retro-dance-ska if anything). I saw them open for Big D, Goldfinger, and Less Than Jake last week, and they made me want to dance like crazy. It helped that they opened their show by doing the robot.

that reminds me of this other dance punk thread where a kid said the rocket summer was dance punk, because their music made people dance at their shows.

dance punk is a genre that combines punk rock and dance/funk/disco elements. Namely, the driving basslines, a certain drum style, and the funk chord style of guitar playing. see: gang of four.

Gang of Four were post-punk. To lump them into this made up genre of "dance-punk" is pure blasphemy.
