So today is release day, how many of you picked one up? i went to AT&T store at 7:30 with a massive line, apparently they only got 35 in so a lot of us got screwed and they sold out :-( i guess they were selling out all over around my area. its funny the lady told us they were coming in ups and then a ups truck shows up, everybody starts cheering. the guy hands her a envelope and they all start booing. haha shit. oh well i got mine ordered though. for those who haven't got/got one, whats your experience been like

also, a lot of people came back reporting problems with itunes. i guess their servers are massively backed up.

for 199...come on. blows any phone outta the water. you must be the minority considering every single store in the us and 22 different countries had hundreds to thousands lined up. you must be in left field or on the wrong page or something

No it doesn't. You can get phones for like $30 and 3 gig mp3 players for about the same price. And if you are too impatient to go home and check your facebook, I pity you.

yeah, you can get phones with mp3 players but it doesn't run with itunes. microsoft media player or whatever the y use is not good. you can get rival phones, but the reason why people get the iphone is because it is an apple product and has that software and user interface that people love. rivals just can't compare. but their are the Microsoft heads, the apple heads, the simple people. its not gonna please everyone.

The interface on this iphone is lightyears better than any shit phone out there and for 199 it can't be beat. I honestly don't understand people wouldn't want something like that. Even my friends that used to be against it all just bought the new one.

Yeah, but with the auto-spell correction, it really isn't a problem. Plus it learns new words on its own, so your slang is not in trouble.

exactly.

and to the person about the keyboard. to be honest, keyboards just add clunkiness. its much simpler having a digital keyboard. the iphone has a very accurate touch screen that is effective. i just recently saw on the news that women think the apple is sexist with the iphone because women with long nails can't use it. A.) that is the most ridic thing i ever heard and B.) cut your fucking nails. i wouldn't want my women touching my penis with long nails. christ.

I'm not defending the lack of a physical keyboard at all, I could care less, but like I said, and like you've just mentioned, a fair amount of people would prefer a physical keyboard. Other complaints that I've heard, although I don't know how valid they are; the relatively small harddrive size, the poor camera quality and now the increased prices for the service plans.

yeah. i hear you man.

for people like myself i have a ipod thats decent capacity so im not worried about the harddrive size on the iphone. it could be better, but its not an issue for me. for those that want a combined ipod/phone with lots of storage. they better wait for the 32 gig. and the service plan really is getting expensive though. if you don't have a good job, it will put a strain on your monthly bills. i think what a a lot of people don't realize is that when you commit to an iphone, you are commiting to paying roughly around 2,000 dollars at the end of 2 years, hence why they want a credit check, and a bunch of other information upon commiting.

The camera quality isn't bad exactly. There tends to be a lack of features to do with it though, just point and click where you want to take a photo. No effects or timer.

As for the keyboard, it's one of those things you have to get used to using. I know I did, and now I can't imagine going back to a regular phone. Texting on my iPhone is so much easier than on my old one.

I was told that after 15/18 months, because of the increase in the At&T service plan, it ends up costing more than the original iPhone would cost. It's still not cheap enough--199 + whatever per month?

i believe cheapest plan is 69.99, then its 89.99 and up over 100, that doesnt include a txt plan either. so yeah, it will most likely be 149.99 for my dad and I on family plan. 90 dollars for me a month. so it is a lot, but im willing to pay that because its worth it imo. im an apple head haha

I was planning on getting one, but I found out that without my AT&T upgrade it will cost me upwards of $400. For $199 I just can't resist an iPhone, but for $400 I will wait it out until I can get it cheaper.

I think they're cool, but I don't really understand all the crazy hype surrounding them. I'm fine with my shitty Razr, haha. I'm not nearly important enough to need email access 24/7, and I feel like if you want to take full advantage of all the features, you've gotta pay a shitload in monthly fees.

I have a Motorola Slvr. Even as far as basic needs (like dialing--the zero key requires me to press down as hard as I can, often with two hands) go, the phone's kind of a piece. When it comes down to it, it gets the jobs done. I'll be looking at iPhones when I need a new phone, probably, but I don't understand this mad rush for them now.

If the other Apple Stores are like us, there are plenty and no signs of selling out even though there were tons of people there. It's the AT&T stores that were selling out.

And don't worry about the free phone, there were only a handful of us at my store who got them along with a group at the 5th Ave. store in NY.

Hahaha sorry! I just saw your above post. Well I know yesterday was weird because 2.0 technically wasn't released even though lots of people downloaded and installed it. I'm now just starting to get my iPhone 3G synced and set up and am going to play around with the app store. When you mentioned authorization though it made me think of other iTunes purchases and how you can only have 5 computers authorized to play songs. I'll post more as I found out more, but for now I'm honestly not too sure. I've spent all day dealing with the iTunes Store not working at all and AT&T's servers sucking ass, so now I finally get to cool down and play.

Cool note though, the old iPhone I moved from can still be used as an iPod Touch.

Nice! That Tap Tap sounds cool, I'll check it out. I've got facebook, myspace, pandora, aol radio, aim, super monkey ball, and shazam. You need to check out Shazam! What's the differnce between AOL and Pandora? I picked Pandora cause I figured it'd give me better music.

And how do you turn off maps completely? Not really 'turn off', but I was using it, pressed the home button thinking it'd end the app, but I feel like it's still running, does that make sense? Is there a way to 'x out of it' so then when I click it again it goes to the US map?

Well AOL gives you preset internet radio stations organized by genre, pretty cool.

As far as Google Maps, it's like some of the other apps. When you leave it you quit, but it's always gonna go back to the last place you were at. If you want it to start at a certain place, you gotta remember to put it there before you leave Google Maps. How's the GPS? I haven't tried it yet.

While you're not using AIM it won't suck your battery. If you want to conserve battery life:
- Turn the brightness down.
- Turn the Wi-Fi off if you're out around town and somewhere where you know you won't be using it. I think there's also a way to turn off 3G, supposedly that helps a lot.
- Also, make sure Bluetooth is off if you're not using it.
- Tell the pushing to not check every 15 minutes.
