I realize there are tons of others, but which do you think puts the best quality stuff?

It used to be Tokyopop until they decided to cease publication of Beck and Kindaichi. They can file for bankruptcy now for all I care.

Hahaha... But they still have a few good series. Get Backers is still doing well. I always thought their series were weak for the most part.

I went with Marvel as well. Viz would be my #2.

I've been reading Marvel comics since I was seven. Only a little DC, so its MARVEL all the way!

If I had to pick one it would be Kodansha (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=88)for continuing to be the most diverse comic publisher in the business. They have yielded such classics as Beck, Kindaichi, Planetes, Vinland Saga, Akira, Shadow Star, Gunsmith Cats, GTO, Parasyte, Oh My Goddess!, the list goes on and on and on. Looking at my favorites list, 90% of it comes from them.

But if I had to pick a US publisher it would be Viz because their Signature line is orgasmic.

Marvel has pretty much always been the only comics I read. DC's Vertigo imprint would be 2nd though.

I really was never a fan of Marvel. I don't know why, but I've always favored DC heavily over it.

The reason I don't like Marvel as much as DC is because Marvel is so inconsistent. They've put out some of the most amazing material, but at the same time they've put out some real garbage in the past couple years (The One More Day Spiderman run for example). I just feel like they'll put out ANYTHING.

I was never big on the DC universe. A lot of their characters are lame and/or overpowering.

Make Mine DC.

Not really, I read just as much Marvel as I do DC. But Marvel really isn't as amazing as people make it out to be.

DC for me.

Honestly, it just comes down to the universe I feel most comfortable with. For some people it is Marvel, for me it is DC. Folks tend to try and point to specific reasons why they prefer one over the other such as: "Marvel is more REAL (re: relatable)" or "DC has richer continuity" or whatever. But I think all the things you can find at Marvel you can pretty much find at DC and vice versa. I don't think either company has a monopoly on any one quality. In the end, it comes down to the ineffable quality that leaves you feeling comfortable with a universe. It is like gravity; an invisible force pulling you at all times in a singular direction.

Beyond the Big Two, almost all companies have something to offer. Vertigo has the corporate sponsorship of DC and uses it to take wonderful risks. Probably has one of the best publishing records of the decade. Image has had a roller coaster existence, but is really settling in thanks to Robert Kirkman's universe and their recent support of Jonathan Hickman. Dark Horse is having quite the year considering Hellboy 2's success and the Buffy juggernaut. Not to mention The Goon keeping a monthly schedule and Umbrella Academy exceeding all expectations. Oni Press is an excellent company that is often overlooked. Brian Wood's LOCAL was phenomenal and Scott Pilgrim is one of the best creations of the decade. IDW is excellent at snatching up licenses from other media: Angel, Star Trek, Transformers, Doctor Who, CSI, etc. Plus, they publish 30 Days of Night. Finally, Dynamite is coming on real strong with Project Superpowers, The Boys, Zorro, BSG, Lone Ranger, and the Man With No Name.

The point being, there are tons of great stuff from every company (including MANY not even mentioned here). Support Indie Comics!

Marvel because I'm biased and grew up with it but it doesn't mean I won't pick up anything else.

Exactly, which is what distresses me about them. They're all about 'could we' not 'should we'.

when i was a kid it seemed like they had the better set of villians, and hence the more interesting conflicts........but i haven't read comics in years.

DC's Vertigo is my pick, but Top Cow and Image arent too far behind.
