The Warner Music Group, under new ownership led by Edgar Bronfman Jr., is planning to cut $250 million in costs. Part of the cut is whittling down about half of the roster at its Atlantic Records label, which was recently merged with Elektra and Lava. According to reports, Third Eye Blind is among more than eighty bands who have been cut loose from the label.

I totally agree. Out of The Vein got NO credit and was overlooked by many people. Thats so gay because that cd killed me. 3eb has more talent than half of the mainstream bands out there right now.

Said perfectly. God I love those guys, and I actually know them.. I did a big project of film for them in their studio (you can see my work at the all access area of thirdeyeblind.net)

bummer.

i doubt stephen jenkins cares - he recieved a multimillion dollar signing bonus when he signed with a music publisher, shortly before third eye blind scored big. i think hes content in his mansion

I guess if he had a mansion, but a mansion in SF where he lives actually translates to a nice little place in north beach, or as he puts it, and I quote "a pimp pad". He's a rad dude.

yeah, i heard about this a while ago from the format (www.theformat.com). they cant believe atlantic would cut third eye blind but keep them. good for the format i guess, and possibly good for third eye blind as they shouldn't have any problem finding a new label and hopefully will have one that will promote them more.

I think this is what they wanted.. they wanted to start there own independent label so they didnt have to put up with major label crap. I think they wanted for creative freedom.. i know I read that somewhere.. im just not sure where.

sucks and all but i dont think you have to worry about it. bands like 3eb are big enough that they could successfully release an album independently, with distro from a major (because im sure they would get distro from a label) - but i bet they will get picked up anyway

its really sad to see bands get dropped, but who knows, maybe this will help bands strive to produce stronger music. the "sophmore slump" is a problem in the industry, so many bands hit their second album on a major and just and just dont perform as they should. now they have to fight for their spots, we'll see (im trying to look at the positive side of all this)

It really sucks when good bands get dropped, not just bands. Third Eye Blind put out some of the most consistently good albums of the past 5-10 years. You cna listen to their albums straight through without getting bored. None of their songs sound the same, yet they all carry the TEB distinctive sound. Even with the loss of the guitarist, they seemed to get better. Now I'm rambling.

3eb is better without Elektra, they did a shit job promoting Blue and Out Of The Vein, and censored Slow Motion.

The format WANT to get dropped. Atlantic/Elektra haven't done shit to promote their album. They are begging to get out of there but Atlantic/Elektra just keep saying no.

THIRDEYEBLIND will get picked up by another label, as stated by a lot of you guys, they are a very very talented band, one with obvious staying power, who put on an awesome live show, Elektra's at a loss, but I hope their new label does promote them more, some of the songs from OOTV could've been alt. hits.
Stephan Jenkins lyrics are great....

third eye blind is an amazing band. too bad elektra fucked them over with blue and out of the vein, because both were most excellent cds. its all garbage i tell you! what is going on with the music industry today. seriously

well see the issue with the format is, their album was marketed strongly as n indie album. It was a lame attempt by elektra to appear "indie". the album was advertised in things like alt. press and such like that, not on the main stream media parts, thus it never picked up major air play. Im not sure why this was but i suspect they wanted to try and create the "indie" feel.

The same kinda thing with Acceptance..... see acceptance was on Columbia (i believe it was), yet "columbia" aproached The Militia Group to put out their debut to help them develop scene credit. See labels like DTR and TMG can sell 10,000 cd's of a band simply because they are that label, someone like elektra or columbia couldnt do that... When a band signs to DTR or TMG or Victory or such - you are more prone to go listen to them, because you tend to trust the labels judgment...

..i also believe (but not possitive) that Fallout Boy is on or has strong ties in some way with Island Records, even though their stuff comes out on Fueled By Ramen.

They hit there huge mainstream peak way back with "Semi-Charmed Life" and that stuff. As soon as they were done with that, the label got the money they wanted. It happens all the time. I hope they keep up, and don't die like Eve 6 after they got dropped.
