Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com) gave New Found Glory (http://www.newfoundglory.com)'s new album, Catalyst, three stars (***). You can read that in the replies. Make sure you go out and pick up your own copy too.

When New Found Glory frontman Jordan Pundik screams, "You'll never get respect" during Catalyst's opener, "Intro," he might as well be talking about his own band. In the course of four albums and a couple of EPs, the Coral Springs, Florida, group has trafficked in simple, catchy pop-punk anthems, anchored by Pundik's earnest high-pitched whine. Apparently the band thought it was time to try something vastly different here. Promising songs such as "This Disaster" and "At Least I Am Known for Something" may be romantic tales at heart, but the double-time drums and chunky riffs push it closer to Eighties thrash metal. Elsewhere, the group careens between hardcore punk, synth-rock and emo-tinged ballads. The band's extra effort shows, giving its pop glory some newfound energy.

I agree completely. I could only listen to a handful of songs off the last album. With Catalyst, I have more favorites than songs I skip over.

thats kinda strange cause i could listen to their last two albums all the way through and i liked every song but i can only listen to three or four songs on this one.

What dipshit wrote that? Thrash metal influences? What the fuck are they talking about...and hardcore punk? Where is that? Hidden somewhere in between the sugar-coated choruses somewhere...or maybe it's no where.

I've been a New Found Glory fan for awhile now, but i tend to agree with Rolling Stone. This is a hard album to listen to. You can't really get a feel for the album from song to song. I find it hard to listen to whole thing at once, i don't know if its the whiny vocals or the lack of depth in the guitars. Truth of my Youth, Failure, Downhill, and No News are good tracks. But everything else seems really forced. I think Over Your Head could be the worst song I've ever heard in my life. This album was a dissapointment for me, I think Sticks and Stones blows this out of the water.

this is a great cd. i think it's better than sitcks and stones. i love truth of my youth and failure's not flattering. i don't wanna know may be sappy, but it's great too. great job nfg.
Are you serious? I love this album. I think it's much better than Sticks & Stones. With all the music you listen to and could love, you love this one? That blows my mind a little. I think the cd is simply a bad cd. Not as bad as Sticks and Stones but defiantly not as good as their old cds. They have a few good songs ( one of their best is Intro in my opinion) the riffs are way sicker then any of their cds before but Jordan’s voice gets worse every year it seems and it just kills the cd when your listening to it. Some songs I can’t stand to listen to because their so repetitive. It doesn’t really seem like they changed their 'style' as much as people (like me) thought they would. I guess I'm a bitter old fan that miss's the olden days of NFG rocking out to Nothing Gold Can Stay and the crowd signing "Stupid games are for stupid people"
I cant believe Avril got 3 1/2 and NFG got 3 in Rollingstone

Catalyst is one of those albums that will take a while to grow on you, but once it does, you'll never wanna put it away. That's how I feel about it, I got a copy a week ago at work and it took me that long to get into it. But damn, it blows away sticks and stones. not their best at all, but not their worst. i'd place it on level with their self titled.

Yeah, I agree. It does take awhile to adjust to the sound, but once you do, it kicks your ass. It was like that for me with Sticks And Stones...but now that I look back on it, only the first four songs off it were good. But nothing will ever top the self titled. Nothing Gold Can Stay and Self titled can never be topped musically again by New Found Glory.
