Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com) reviewed Sugarcult (http://www.sugarcult.com)'s latest album, Palm Trees and Power Lines, and gave it two stars (**). You can read what they had to say in the replies.

Sugarcult are quick to claim they're not a pop-punk band; in fact, they're closer to a narrower genre: O.C. rock. The Santa Barbara, California, band's second album is full of dewy-eyed tunes that would make fine background music for the Fox teen-drama series, particularly the hard-driving lead single, "Memory," on which singer Tim Pagnotta intones, "This may never start/Tearing out my heart/I'd be your memory." For each woozily nostalgic or promisingly toothy moment (the Nirvana-ish chorus on "Champagne"), there's a torrent of youthful wallowing on its way. The craftsmanship on Palm Trees shows Sugarcult are moving toward adulthood, but for now they're still mad for sadness.

horrible review. this album is one of the best this year.
I was kind of dissapointed with this album- glad they went for a less poppy and more mature sound, but it wasn't what I expected

So if my math is correct, the new Avril CD is two times better than this. Something's not right.

While I'm not quick to agree with Rolling Stone, the reviewer was a bit fair. While I dont think this album is awful, it's a bit awkward for me. I think in the next year or two they'll really nail it. 4 and 5 star systems are terrible anyways. AP used to have a 10 pt system, which is a bit more informing.
i was horribly dissapointed with this record
i think the record is pretty good... not all the songs are great but there are a lot of good songs... if that makes sense

This isn't their second album. Rolling Stone is retarded.

It may not be their second album, but it's the 2nd album to most people. Independent releases rarely qualify in major magazines as an album.
Sugarcult's new cd is good, but it wasn't all that I expected. There's some great songs, but I think I enjoyed their last release more.

Wrap me up in Plastic was a work of genius, end of story. I was pretty dissapointed with Palm Trees ... but it is still a good CD. To say that it's half as good as Avril's CD almost makes me want to say "fuck my cred" and go off and buy it. :headshake Poor Rollingstone ... will they never get it right?

I've been a huge Sugarcult fan now for 4 years.. This album wasn't quite what I'd hoped for, but I still like it. They're a good band.

I heard the single and immediately wanted this album when it came out. Had to go to two stores to buy it since it was sold out at the first place. Imported it into my ipod and lo and behold...I was not a fan. I just like the single (which is my favorite song I've heard this spring so far). Too bad I just can't get into the rest of the album at all.
The single and the rest of the album sound so different. It almost feels like a bait and switch tactic. I feel hosed jimmy. I feel hosed.

AH! No way. Fuck Rolling Stone. They suck anyway. I'm an AltPress girl myself.
