Those that think My Chemical Romance (http://www.mychemicalromance.com) "sold out" their sound, just wait until you hear the full album. Being an old fan of this band, I can assure you that I was more than pleased with their new album - I in fact think it's very, very, very good. I promise a full review coming soon.

hopefully their new cd will sound less like "tell all your friends" as interpreted by a bunch of dudes wearing girls jeans and trying to write goth lyrics. that would be sweet.

Tate you hype everyband and every new album unless you hate their singer (ie taking back sunday)
this album is pathetic im sad that mcr sold out and wrote a song just so it can be a single (yes thats a reference to the horrid pop of "im not okay" Im also sad that alot of you by into bands like this

You realize a band's single isn't picked 'til AFTER they're finished recording an album usually (there are a few exceptions though).

either you are retarded or you never heard the last album. they wrote alot of this album while writing the old one. and if you have heard the old one, does the song Headfirst for halos ring a bell?theyve had plenty of pop type songs. id love to rip into you more or be mean or something but, refused is the shit. so i'll just shut up

I don't hate Adam, seriously, get out of this little rumor mill. I don't hate TBS, I just got off the phone with their label discussing promotion for their new album .. seriously, I like the band. Knock it off.
And the single is the worst song on the album ... but you have the nerve to come on here and trash talk me, yet you haven't even heard the full album? Yet you have the gall to talk trash on MCR? That's just stupid man. You have no reason to be talking at all if you haven't even heard the CD. This album is, IMHO, better than their last.

Have you heard "Helena" and "Thank You For The Venom"? I like "I'm Not Okay," but I think those songs are soooo much better. And the point Jason is making is to not just give up on a band 'cause of a song or two you hear. Wait 'til you hear the album in full, mixed w/ the other songs, how the conept plays out, etc.

I find this hard to believe seeing as the singing was entirely different in style in their single than the last record; and if they did that just for that song, my respect for them goes down even more.

I, too, have not heard the full album. I don't intend to trash talk the album. But it does seem like they wrote a shitty radio single. I was a fan of the last album, that hasn't changed. Popiness can mean several things. I don't have a problem with the upbeat rythm, but with the redundancy and the constant chorus. I may enjoy the album but I don't appreciate when a band lowers itself to appeal to people. Music is not rightfully a means to attaining fame or fans or anything else in "the industry." It is such instrumental usage that creates much of the shitty music that exists and has existed. It may only be one song, and I suspect that the label may have had some power in the decision, but I maintain the idea that it is shameful. I've never been a professional musician, and I may be idealistic, but I do believe that this song is progress towards selling-out. I often avoid that term, as it is overused. But this song is crap. And MCR can do much better...

alot of you guys need to chill the fuck out, and stop judging the entire album by ONE song that you've heard, that being "i'm not okay". i've heard most of these songs and the album is incredible, so give them a chance before you start bashing them saying they've "sold out". just because a band takes on somewhat of a new style, people trash talk them, and all of this happens. for example, saves the day's album "in reverie", sure, they took on a new sound, but that doesn't mean they still aren't the same quality band that they were before.

Drop something?
if you think mcr sold out on this record, then you weren't paying enough attention on the last one. they didn't just suddenly start writing pop elements into their songs, headfirst for halos and vampires will never hurt you were both hella poppy.
if you wanna say they sold out because you're more punk then everyone else, just come right out and say so. i'm sure your hair is blacker than most of ours and i don't even own any girls pants, so you got me there.

Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge drops June 8th.

What a dumb, pointless post. No one is bashing them because they're "too punk"; give up the trite expression already. People are bashing them because the single, in a word, blows. The singing is completely different than their last album. And the song fucking sucks. They may have had some poppy elements in the other one, but this blows them away.

i'm just saying that i expect mcr to become one of those bands that people insist sold out and throw that "their first album was better" crap all over it. maybe the album will end up sucking, who knows. what i've heard sounds pretty good.
also, i can't say that i agree that the singing on this record sounds all that different. the production quality sounds a little clearer, which may be something people won't like as much, but the actual singing sounds about the same style to me, and i listen to the last album a lot.
but whatever, you can't please everyone. especially on a messageboard.
i'll check it out either way.

i'll check it out either way.Okay just to be honest with everyone its their "stuipd/horrid pop ect." song I'm Not Okay that actually got me interested into them. and I think that it is one of the more better songs on their album TCFSR... Another thing MCr didnt write this song for publicity crap err or for it to be a single on the radio crap if you listen to the album its like a little story and that song fits right into to the story line it wasnt made because they were selling out or for it to be a single. also side note Helena was partly written for mikeys and gers grandmother whose name was helen. henchforth Helena.... and the funeral setting in the video... but side note over. and after i got into MCR because of I'm Not Okay. i got their first cd. which was okay and i can tell you some sounds did change like if anyone noticed they got a new drumer between the time they started recodring three cheers and i brought you my bullets... who was actually staff from alkaline trio. so you can say the sound changed and they did get older and with age voice range changes and crap like that so that is partly true but let me tell you it didnt change for the worse it actually got better also they are Fucking awsome in concert.. and i can proudly say i own both albums. and if you dont own Three cheers then you should get it.. oh and one more thing before you go bashing one song the artist/group or the album find out the facts from the artist/group before you say anything k... k-den alsofound this excert from a review thought id explain what i was talking about when i said the song fit into the story for the album...
"You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison" is the messy aftermath of the groom's revenge, as the distubingly controlled and melodic intro crescendos into a screaming, distorted power chord frenzy as the album's antihero is led away to prison for his crimes. One of my favorite tracks, the icy opening devolves into an angry scream-fest by the end of the song, conveying the character's spiral into insanity. Suddenly, lead single "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" blasts in with a catchy riff and more cohesive, even clean arrangement. The song exemplifies MCR's crossover appeal, but still manages to rock pretty hard and further the story of the antihero agonizing over his situation and acknowledging his loss of sanity. if you want to read whole thing heres the address http://www.musicianforums.com/sputnik/album.php?reviewid=2779&genreid=6&styleid=18 also theres a rosary in the cd itslef also belonging to mikey and gerards grandmother..well thats all for now
