Just to clear some things up, Taking Back Sunday (http://www.takingbacksunday.com) did re-record "Your Own Disaster", but not specifically for the Japnese release of their new album, Where You Want To Be, that's just where it's ending up. Second, "Follow The Format" (the demo that made its way around the internet) was recorded. However, it did not make the album, but you should be able to look for it at some point down the road as there always is a need for more songs.

Why do overseas versions of CDs get extra songs...I just don't understand.
Im curious why would they re-record Your Own Disater? Is it because John sang on the last one. Isn't that kinda robbing John of a song he co-wrote? unless Adam wrote the whole thing then I understand.

CDs cost way more in other countries. If it was the same CD, record stores would just import the US versions to save $ which would pretty much kill foreign record lables. record lable's viewpoint is by putting extra songs on, the people in that country will buy that version because who wants only 10 of say 12 available songs. band's justify this because the high cost of CDs and the fact that the band doesnt usually tour that country as much as the US warrents a little something extra so they dont screw their foreign fans. and then we US kids just go download the import only songs and everyone's happy

The orignial your own disaster was a demo intended to be re done for Tell all your friends. they ran out of time while recording because as i understand it, they wanted to make a super produced version with strings and all sorts of crazy shit. In interviews before john left, they said they were going to do it on the next album. As for why re record it now that john left? i dont really know but i'm not going to argue with it. I'd love to see this song done some serious justice and turned into a big fucking epic.

I've heard that if you live in Japan and England it is cheaper to buy the american import than to actually buy the pressing from the record label in your country. Because of this, some labels add songs that weren't on the USA release because it will give people the reason to buy the local version rather than the import. I'm not positive this is right, but it's what I have heard and it makes enough sense.
As far as follow the format goes, I can understand it not being on the album if it didn't fit, but I am a little disappointed. It's better than bonus mosh, the only other new song I've heard so far. For the rest of the album I'll be waiting til release.

First, how'd you know they re-recorded "Your Own Disaster"? How'd you know it wasn't intended for the Japanese release but that's where it'll end up? How'd you know "Follow The Format" (demo that leaked) wasn't on the album? They could've changed the title for all you know.

another reason it was rerecorded is because the drummer wanted to play on the song since the first one was recorded with a drum machine.

I agree with before, it is a useful post! For me anyhow. Also, I have been in both the UK and the US and albums are a lot more expensive here in England, so the early post was right, they put the bonus tracks on so we are not tempted to buy the imports. For instance, NFG's "Catalyst" is $9.99 over there but £14 here (about twenty dollars), so they put a couple of bonus tracks on the end to keep us happy. Just like they released a limited edition version of "Deja Entendu" as well.
And I cannot wait to hear the re-recorded "Your Own Disaster"... Wow...
i wanna know what song they changed "I'm not gay (I just wish I were)" to...that song was awesome

What they need to do is put "Message In A Bottle" as a b-side to the next single they put out.

can anyone send me Follow The Format through MSN? if so..message me.
i would greatly appriciate it
i heard that mark wasn't happy, with the way it's original recording had the electric drums on it, and that he always wanted to redo it w/ real drums instead, and secondly hearing that follow the format isn't on the american release of "where you want to be" leads me to believe that of the say 11-15 songs they made for this album it was prob. one of the less good ones if they desided not to give it to the US fans...

...Didn't this subject get put to rest a long time ago? As long as they can still make good music (which they've proved to me that they can) I still love them, if you feel guilty simply don't listen to them.
