Who's better?

i prefer Smith's lyrics & the Cures musicianship/sound over the Smiths.
plus Morrissey loves money.

but Asleep & The Queen Is Dead beat out most of what the Cure has released.
it's a hard decison to me.

This is very close though..

Moz

Since the Smiths released much less material, they had far less bad material obviously and it's easier to like them in a sense because they have no bad or subpar albums while the Cure has a decent amount.

Robert Smith. If you watch South Park, you know why... hahaha

i think Smith definitely brings in a more devout fanbase.
i've see so much goth poetry dedicated to him.

While the Smiths were certainly more consistently good than The Cure, in terms of highlights The Cure just completely owns them. Disintegration, 17 Seconds, Pornography, Faith, Three Imaginary Boys, hell even Wish has its moments. Nothing The Smiths put out reaches those same highs. And almost nothing released in the 80's (or since) can top Disintegration.

am i the only one that sees this age old comparison as apples & oranges? both completely different in their writing styles, they just seem to have a somewhat of an overlapping fan base at times (& even that's a bit of a stretch, given the amount of either or arguments made for each)

i'll cop out & say i enjoy them both, but each for different reasons

I'm not sure I agree. Morrissey fans are pretty intense.

I'd say a better way of describing them is depressed.

I'm sure there are Morrissey enthusiasts who take after his style as well.

I can't say I prefer one over the other. Like stated earlier by ElJeffe, I like them both for different reasons.
