In “Your Friend, Andrew W.K.,” Andrew will answer emails from viewers and fans submitted via MTV2.com, helping them with their problems and giving his unique brand of advice. In every episode, Andrew will connect directly with individual fans to help them solve their particular problem.
“Whenever I need advice or I need to get out of a jam I have a hot line in my office that connects me directly with Andrew W.K.,” said Tom Calderone, EVP, Music and Talent Programming, MTV & MTV2. “Not only is Andrew an incredibly talented musician and spirited live performer, but he has formed amazingly strong connections with his fans and MTV2 viewers, that’s why we are so happy to present ‘Your Friend Andrew W.K.’”
"It's amazing to actually have a television show! YES!!!,” said Andrew W.K. “MTV2 asked me what I wanted it to be about and I said, ‘The show shouldn’t be about ME it should be about US’, and that’s the way it works - people can write to me and I get to go and visit them at their houses and hang out and try to answer their questions! I don't know if I'm really qualified to be giving someone advice, but since people are asking for it, I'm going to do the best I can to help them out!”
Andrew W.K. first came to the attention of the MTV2 audience with his breakout video for “Party Hard” off his debut album I Get Wet. MTV and MTV2 viewers also got to know the man behind the music when “Crashing With Andrew W.K.” aired in early 2003. The special followed Andrew W.K. as he spent a weekend at a historically African American college, learned to bath properly, got cornrows, and convinced some of the college girls to perform on stage with him at a local show. Andrew W.K. also graced the MTV2 screen when he hosted the “Most Controversial Videos” countdown, and was intimately involved in MTV’s “Jackass: The Movie” on-air promotion.
Andrew W.K.’s most recent album The Wolf (Island Records) was released in September 2003. The album was written and produced by Andrew and features the anthemic new single, “Your Rules”. Andrew has spent most of the last three years touring not only as part of the Vans Warped Tour and Ozzfest but headlining his own shows which are such a complete experience for Andrew’s fans. The fists in the air, high-energy live show is one of the most amazing experiences featuring Andrew’s fans joining him on stage, getting on his shoulders and singing the words to every one of his songs.
