Yea, dude is the cockiest of the cocky...I cannot even post on VC anymore because of his fat fucking fat, all he does is name drop, name drop, cry, act like the best music collector/never has a wrong opinion ever, still fat, cries, name drops, fat... all because hes fat and writes for a shit magazine, so he thinks he can get into all these shows, know all these bands... when he's still fat. plus he has a say when bands think its smart to let that site press their vinyl/have a say in how its packaged or made... so when they churning out GASLIGHT ANTHEM COFFEE MUGS or AGAINST ME PRESS 4-982438 it makes me want to blow my fucking brains out how kids fall for such garbage.

what you should do is just follow bands and warped tour around all summer in your mid 20s and hope that is a good career choice.

You mean their first two albums? I'm not sure who I'd draw comparison to, but I'm sure if you like "...Is Dead" that you'd like them as well. I can't say for sure though.
I think that if you like A Wilhelm Scream, then you'll enjoy their early stuff. It's not quite as technical-sounding as AWS but it's similar, I guess. Then again, I've never been the biggest AWS fan. I like them too but I'm not huge on them.

Yep. Explosives... isn't too shabby either. I got one of the last copies of the Love 7" from their store a while back and it rules so fucking hard, if only for the fact that "The Return Of..." is on it. It ranks easily among their top three songs.
And yeah, I think they're in the studio. I think Alex said a while back that they were just waiting for Brand New to finish up before they could get in there.

When we wrote about Crime In Stereo's upcoming full-length in this section last year, no one expected that we'd still be anticipating this year. But the realities of touring, writing and recording, as well as sharing a producer (Mike Sapone) with Brand New pushed the release date of the band's fourth full-length into this February--and they couldn't be more excited about the result. "We made a really experimental record with Is Dead," says vocalist Kristian Hallbert of the band's 2007 full-length. "This record is much more live-oriented. It has the experimentation of Dead along with the raw feeling of our older material." Melding the powerful hardcore assault of their youth with a mature approach to songwriting and sonic exploration, Crime In Stereo have evolved from creating mosh-ready ragers to thought-provoking anthems, and Hallbert is looking forward to pushing the band in both directions with their still-untitled latest offering. "The recording process is my favorite part of being in a band. I love creating something new," he says. "I feel like this is the most well-rounded record we've done to date. It encompasses our past work, and it has a bunch of new things to offer. I think this is going to be a real record--more than just a bunch of cool songs."
that's from alternative press. it sure has me excited.
If it's any indication, someone from punknews (InaGreendase) rated the new album 4 stars on rateyourmusic.

"Drugwolf" is sort of meh. It feels...naked. It's missing that roughness and yelling that characterizes CIS. I guess when Alt Press says that"Crime In Stereo have evolved from creating mosh-ready ragers to thought-provoking anthems," they mean that they're completely changing sounds.

Is there something wrong with changing sounds? If a band doesn't they get boring because all of their songs sound the same. Bayside is a perfect example of this.

Amazing (4.5 out of 5 stars) review in ALTERNATIVE PRESS (March 2010)
Crime In Stereo's I WAS TRYING TO DESCRIBE YOU TO SOMEONE
Review: 4.5 STARS OUT OF 5 (March 2010 issue of ALTERNATIVE PRESS)
Crime In Stereo rewrote the melodic hardcore rulebook with 2007’s Is Dead, so it figures they would junk it altogether for I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone, its equally ambitious, unpredictable follow-up. The only times Describe comes close to a familiar melodic-hardcore beat are on the opening “Queue Moderns” and the upbeat closer “I Cannot Answer You Tonight.” Otherwise, CIS convey aggression and energy through a maddening array of effects pedals and the haunting, grainy tenor of Kristian Hallbert’s reverberating voice, combining to form corrosive anthems embellished by space and nuance.
“Drugwolf” contains the biggest chorus of the band’s career to date, benefiting from a furious guitar part and soaring vocals from Hallbert (plus producer Mike Sapone’s creative recording technique). The beautiful “Young” shreds a caustic fit amid a poetic, chillingly delivered scene. Despite noticeably jarring mood swings in “Odalisque” and “Type One,” Describe’s middle third is the album’s most brilliant and compelling section. If Describe isn’t hardcore in sound, it is in spirit, from the possible police cynicism of “Drugwolf” to the Cro-Mags (and Braid) references in “Odalisque.” But who cares? Just trying to describe this album is frustrating enough. (BRIDGE NINE; bridge9.com) Brian Shultz

Is Dead was a real studio album. It's more like a "listening" record; when we got out to tour, we realized that we were really only interested in playing maybe half the record live. [The] other half we don't really have any interest in playing live, so this record was made with the of wanting to play [I]every single song live. We really feel like out of 11 tracks on this record, there are 11 we want to play. We were very aware of what works for us when making this record, so that really translates well live with the new material because we're really super tight and can nail everything specific to our strengths.
Hopefully this means their live show will improve. When I saw them, I didn't think they were bad at all, but I know a ton of people seem to think they're super boring live.

I think I still need to spend some more time with this before deciding. ...Is Dead is one of my favorite albums of the past few years, but this is seriously good. I honestly can't think of a song that i remotely dislike on it, they did a really fantastic job on this.
Well it came out today. I've had it on repeat for a few weeks and on each listen it grows on me considerably. I second the notion that "I Cannot Answer You Tonight" is one of the best songs they have written. Easily my favorite line in the song, if not the entire record is "God bless the shape your goddamn body makes as it move across my stage into frame." Each song is unique and fantastic in it's own right. I think I even like it better than ...Is Dead.

A few weeks in and I'm definitely still diggin' this record for what it is--a logical progression. I'm not sure where else they could have gone after ...Is Dead.
That being said? Who the fuck would have expected this from the dudes behind Troubled Stateside? The one bit that gets me is that the lyrics seem to have been downgraded in favor of the music; part of the heart of the old sound were the words.

It's really nothing like anything else I like. It doesn't make much sense that I'd like it as much as I do. But their melodic sense when they chose to employ it is incredible, and the abrasive parts in between just make it that much more powerful when they get catchy.

Good news for Crime in Stereo, though. That new album might lose a few fans, but for the most part, I think they've naturally and honestly found a way to progress beyond the "hardcore/melodic hardcore" scene. Y'know, for lack of a better term.

It's all a matter of what you're into. Bands like Crime in Stereo that evolve the way they have usually have a hard time finding a decent amount of fans. They'll most likely never be "hardcore" enough for many of their old fans, but they'll never quite be "artsy" enough for the rest.
I think Crime in Stereo is one of those bands where...There's actually two different versions of the same band. There's Troubled Stateside and before, and then there's ...Is Dead and beyond.
Really, what they need to do for success is have Jesse Lacey hype them more and/or have Kristian play solo acoustic shows with Kevin Devine and the dude from Manchester Orchestra. Or get somebody that used to be in Glassjaw to play with them. Haha. Only then will the "cool kids" pay attention.
