They are going to make it legal to bring in endagered animals from countries that protect them.

Since we have no laws against hunting them because they should not be here, they are open game.

Pretty much...

If the act is abolished, endangered animals are allowed inside the United States.

The United States has no laws against hunting/killing of these animals because what is the use of having a law against something that should not even be here?

So if people bring the animals to the United States, they can be hunted and killed for no penalty.

they're trying to abolish the endangered species act?
i know there are endangered species in the u.s. and laws against hunting them, if it's an endagered species isn't it illegal to hunt them by default?
will this allow the trade of endagered species?

From the sound of the movie, the only thing that's being changed is a stipulation that endangered species can't be sold in America. It has nothing to do with hunting or killing, just selling. It's still illegal to kill any endangered species. And now, private owners can purchase an endangered animal, or even a zoo could purchase some. It used to be that zoos could only keep them for a certain amount of time, but then they'd have to go somewhere else, they couldn't be owned permanently (I'm pretty sure), so this would allow them to keep them without having to keep changing habitat of the animal over and over.

I can see the bad it could bring, but it could also bring some good.

I only interpreted hunting because of the gun. I could be wrong, and probably am...so yeah.

But if we cage up endangered animals, we are not letting them breed like they need to. If too many are caged up, the species can die out.

There are some species (I wish I could name some, I'll drudge up something later if I can find it) that aren't breeding in the wild, which is why they're endangered. Or if they do breed, the male will kill any other males that could potentially be his enemies (even his offspring). Some are only still in existence because they're caged up.

that sounds like bullshit to me.

i wonder if it only covers live animals or if this means we'll start to see dried tiger penis and some other shit like elephant tusks and what not in the stores.

I don't know about you, but I'd be first in line for some panda jerky.

Seriously though, I'm pretty sure law still covers killing the animals. If they die of natural causes (which might be hard to determine) in a zoo or in a private home...then you might be able to see tiger penis or elephant tusks in supermarkets. Wouldn't that be interesting? And, would this make "farms" legal? So someone could just harvest a bunch of endangered animals and then sell them to the highest bidder for whatever purpose? That wouldn't be good.
