I've been listening to With Teeth quite a bit recently.

What's the general opinion on NIN?

I listened to The Downward Spiral in 1994 for about a year straight. Didn't buy or listen to any of his stuff again until The Slip, which I only got because it was free.

Trent Reznor is a very talented artist but much of his music is very hit or miss.

Good music when he doesn't dwell on the cheesy 90s emotional torment lingo. Enough with stuff about being on your hands on knees Trent jesus christ stand up for once.

NIN is one of the best bands of the last 20 years.

I was the biggest NIN fanboy right around 03-04. I just had to have all the halos (which in retrospect is pretty pointless). Pretty Hate Machine and Broken EP are both pretty good, but The Downward Spiral and The Fragile are amazing. With Teeth blew, Year Zero was an excellent return to form, and I still haven't listened to The Slip yet. the way he's released music just show's he's leading the pack in that area.

have any of you guys heard Still?

He's good, but I don't really listen to them that much. I'm never in the mood. Ghosts was good though. That was probably my favorite from NIN.

Don't let this happen. Nine Inch Nails has some solid records. But, I really like Ghosts.

His work with Saul Williams is good and I really like the song he did with El-P. I'm not a huge Nine Inch Nails buff but I really enjoy the early albums.

Saul Williams needs to blow up.

Also, I love NIN. The Fragile is my favorite release by him.

The only thing I don't like is all the people claiming to love them and the ONLY song they know is Closer

and they don't even know it by the title..
They know it by "Fuck you like an animal"

I saw NIN for the first time last year, mainly becuase the Mrs wanted to go I was suprised how good they were. The Downward Spiral is my favourite of their released, but I haven't given much of their new stuff a listen.

NIN was all I listened to from '05-'07. Worked my way from Pretty Hate Machine to Year Zero. Trent Reznor is definitely one of my idols.

The Fragile > Ghosts I-IV > Broken > The Downward Spiral > Year Zero > Pretty Hate Machine > The Slip > With Teeth

Ghosts I-IV is my album of the year. Lights In The Sky Tour this year was quite the experience for me, I sang along to every word, but I had shitty seats. The Slip was good but not great. With Teeth was not up to par with other releases, but it's still good. The double disc epic The Fragile is some of the best music I have ever heard. I was obsessed with Broken during a dark time of my life. It haunts my soul to listen to it. The worst NIN songs are Heresy and The Hand That Feeds. Kill me when the latter song plays on the radio.

It's an EP, but it's still a significant release regardless. And I do personally believe it is better than The Downward Spiral. I attribute Broken as being the first "heavy" music I got into, excluding nu-metal. Happiness In Slavery and Gave Up have genuinely frightening moments, there's so many eerie layers and sounds to those songs that will forever haunt me. It was Trent at his peak with anger, a complete 180 from the poppy synth sounds of Pretty Hate Machine. As for The Downward Spiral, it's overrated, but nonetheless, an extraordinary piece of work, it's obviously his magnum opus but Trent's seen better days with The Fragile, in my opinion.

I really like both bands and have fortunately not run into many people who look like this and have quite a few friends who like them. Maybe it is an American thing, I dunno.

When I saw Tool it was mainly adult stoners. Not that this is an improvement I suppose.

Anyway, I love The Downward Spiral along with The Fragile and Broken. I was really getting into the band when With Teeth dropped and it turned me off a little bit. Liked both albums this year a lot though.

I absolutely love With Teeth. Maybe it's the rhythm and dance side of me, but something about that album makes it really listenable. It probably has the least depth out of any NIN release but it sure makes a bike ride to class through the snow a lot easier.

"All the Love In The World" is also a great song

Like him, or hate him, Trent Reznor actually has an interesting view on the music industry, and how to get his music out there. I think that the USB drives found at the shows before Year Zero came out was genius. He also puts on a hell of a live show, I saw him for the first time at Lollapalooza this year, and was amazed at the set up of the stage, and how he was able to mix it up with every song.

I absolutely love this band. Trent Reznor is my role model. The Fragile was a great record, and most stuff after that was alright up until The Slip, where he managed to blow my mind again with every song after discipline.

NIN will always mean a lot to me got into them when I was about 15 & have pretty much grown up listening to them since,

I managed to get after-show passes to see them just before With Teeth was released at their London Astoria date they played, I had the pleasure of meeting Trent & Jodie White after the gig(they were both really nice guys to talk to) This is definitely on of my favorite gig moments

NIN's cover of Dead Souls is absolutely amazing track

Same here. I was never into NIN when they took the 4-5 year breaks between albums, so I've never experienced waiting that long for new material. I just hope he continues to put stuff out more regularly.

It's just rather irritating that a lot of people who posted in this thread find Trent Reznor admirable for what you just mentioned, yet they don't like his music or only have heard The Downward Spiral. He deserves more praise for his music on AP.net. Then again, I'd be turned off to listen to them by most of NIN's fans too if I weren't already a huge fan. The guy who said it earlier exemplified it best with his description of the guy with long hair parted down the middle wearing a Tool shirt.

Phenomenal is the word that comes to mind. I only saw them in a 5,000 people venue (which is robably smaller than what they're doing now) but a club show would be amazing.

I liked them a lot when I was younger, but I grew out of it. I really liked The Fragile and With Teeth, but I thought Year Zero was horrendous. I never got into Pretty Hate Machine, but the Broken EP was always a fun time. The Downward Spiral was a pretty good album, I guess. I don't know, I listened to it for about a month straight and then never again.
