My Chemical Romance (http://www.mychemicalromance.com) has a new website. For all of you that did indeed pick up the new album, what do you think? Post opinions in the replies.

It's oh so good. I'm Not Okay is very different from the rest of the album, but the guitar solo in it makes up for that. Gerard's voice is excellent.

that guitar solo seriously blows. Not only are the transitions in and out of it disgusting but the notes in the solo sound like ass. that just my opinion though.

Off topic: has anyone seen the promo pic for MCR? (the one on the front page of purevolume). Does anyone else think Gerard looks exactly like Edward Scissorhands?

It's pretty good. Nowhere near as good as Bullets, but I never expected it to be.

Did anyone else pick up on the one line that totally rips off Jawbreaker? When Gerard sings "if youuuuuu were here" in "Give 'Em Hell, Kid" [track 2], it sounds exactly like when Blake sings "if youuuuuu could hear" in "Fireman."

What I like about it is that it sounds like it came out of 80's metal, or maybe something else I've heard before. Whatever. That's just my opinion though.

He does look a little odd. The Scissorhands thing, in the eyes...I kinda see it only now that you mention it.

not trying to start an argument, but it could be a tribute or homage kind of thing, not necessarily a rip off
or it could just be coincidence
if it was more than just a line, i'd say you got something

Personally I think this album blew it out of the water. Best album of '04 so far. My favorite tracks are "Hang 'Em High", "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison", and "Thanks for the Venom".

I'm obsessed. Must've played it at least 5 times so far today.

in related news...

any thoughts on the new hawthorne heights album? is it really as awful as the various reviews floating around make it sound?

also, what's up with safety in numbers? apparently their new album is out today, but triple crown's website (worst label website ever) has nothing about it and the band itself doesn't have a website. i heard it's good though.

i Love the CD so Much, i've listened to it all day. I think that 'I brought you my Bullets' is better, but this is not bad at all. very catchy and fun to listen to, in that My Chemical Romance sorta way. My favorite Tracks are.

Helena
You Know what they do to guys like us in Prison
The Ghost of you
It's Not a Fashion Statement, its a Deathwish

but every song is really good, so it doesnt even matter.

Oh yeah...if not Jawbreaker, MCR completely rips off Avenged Sevenfold at one point.

Listen to the opening riff of "Unholy Confessions" (A7X).
Listen to the opening riff of "Thank You For the Venom."

IT'S THE SAME DAMN THING.

Edit: Okay, not the same thing. But close...I'm done.

i still havent had enough time to soak in the cd, and ultimatly time will tell but here are my first impressions: and note i dont know song names, i like to hide them so i can pick the ones i like w/o outside hype effecting me.

i felt like alot of the songs sound to much the same. like MCR figured out certain chords that they like the sound of, and they only slightly distort those chords. first 4 songs seem to lack a distinguishing sound. they need to mix things up more then they do.

when they did mix things up i love it, i love the slow song towards the middle of the cd and of course i promise is awesome. like 4 of the songs blew me away, but the whole cd didnt. ill give the cd more time, learn each song by itself, but as a cd i wasnt blown away, but its not bad, im still going to gleefully listen to it

This cd is awesome, bullets is 10 times better, and why does everyone hate Im not okay that song sounds more like any song on the first cd than anything else, it rocks, its not poppy its MCR. shit, its two guitars octives, that sound like one sound like every song on the first album I dont get why people dont like it, this new cd lacks a good acoustic song. and where is that solo that he plays in that prison video clip I cant hear it on the cd at all, in the video it kicked ass..

i totally agree. i actually wish there were a few more slower songs...
the parts of the songs that stand out and that are different don't last long enough.....they should have experimented more with the speed of the songs especially, every song doesn't have to be fast.

It was a tad disapointing at first, but it seems to be growing on me. Alot of the songs just don't seem build up, then fail to progress to anything. But it's not a bad disc at all. 3/5 stars.

1 Helena- a weak opening track. it is slow, and sing alongy. balladesqe. 2/5

2 Give Em Hell Kid- Opens up with a sick bass part and goes into a creepy punk type thing. vocals come in with that distortion/megaphone thing... goes right into a chorus. reminds me of a TSOL song. this would have been a good opening track. it is pretty short. 4/5

3 To The End- the beginning gets you pumped up. i like the way this song builds up. again, it has a really creepy/ghoul feel to it. the chorus gets a bit repetitive though. there is a "whoa" at about 2:10 which i dig. 3/5

4 You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison- starts of jumpy, reminds me of a western song. the chorus is nice and agressive, which i like. second verse is kind of wierd and confusing lots of things going on... goes back into kick ass chorus. 4/5

5 I'm Not OK, I Promise- this is the single. i'ts kind of soft and poppy. not alot of energy. it is anthemic, but very repetitive. rather boring. 2/5

6 The Ghost Of You- boring, slow... yet the chorus is kind of catchy "never coming home never coming home!!" i will call it a filler track 2/5

7 The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You- starts off really neat. fast. guitars. heavy chorus. lots of choppiness in the 2nd verse. i like the heavy chorus he said "alright" alot in it. i like that word. the song slows down alot by the end which is a bit lame. but its ok cause i like the chorus. 3/5

8 Interlude

9 Thanks For The Venom- i love the kick ass beginning. this whole song rules. verse is nice and agressive. chorus is nice and catchy. this song is a whole lot of rock. chorus gets a bit repetive towards the end. 4/5.

10 Hang Em High- starts off like an old western cowboy song. and kicks into agressiveness. its about being a cowboy. i want to be a cowboy. i like the guitars alot in this. they are all over the place, which is a good thing in a song like this. nice fast song. 4/5

11 Its Not A Fashion Statement, Its A Deathwish- they have been playing this live for awhile. since like, last summer. so i've heard it before. song is mediocre, put together with the other songs, it seems like a filler track. there really isnt anything special about it. 2/5.

12 Cemetary Drive- chorus is alright.. nothing too great about the song. at the end of the song, you feel like there should be another chorus but it kind of leaves you hanging. lame. 2/5

13 I Never Told You What I Did For a Living- song flows well, and is nice and choppy, its good and fast. i love the part where he says "AND WE ALL FALL DOWN!!" and then they go into this heavy part. it just sounds nice. ending is appropriate for the end of an album "we will dance again, we will love again... blah blah" 3/5.

overall- 5/10- album is kind of weak. nothing too memorable. none of the songs stand out too much. maybe it will grown on me.

The CD is absolutely amazing. It's everything I thought it would be. My favorite track is probably Helena and It's Not a Fashion Statement, It's a Fucking Deathwish.

And to the guy who said the new Midtown CD would be better, you must be crazy. That CD bored me to death not even halfway through, same as their other stuff. But, unfortunately, to each his own.

this album is way more diverse than "bullets" and i think shows more of mcr's range of musical talent, as well as gerard's vocal range. my favorite song would definetely have to be "Helena." As well as some other people I don't understand why people hate "I'm Not Okay" so much. I think it's a pretty respectable song and doesn't stray far from "Bullets."

so here's my take on the MCR cd....

anything i say about the album will be pretty biased. MCR have been some of the coolest guys i will ever have the pleasure of knowing, and since i like them as friends as well as genius musicians, of course my opinions will be skewed. if you know that the record is a concept record and have heard the band describe the songs as part of a story, try to understand the concept through the musical aspect as well as the written aspect. it sort of adds something, but again, in my eyes, it limits you in some ways. of course there's the token single (which i happen to like....) but again, MCR explores a bit with style which is good because of course, it is a NEW record. i was expecting something that would rip me to shreds, and the record definitely delivers to my liking. so i dont go about the record as one kick ass band releasing new music, i think of it as the soundtrack to "the story of a man, a woman, and the corpses of a thousand evil men". maybe you'll find some shred of respect for it if you dont like the new cd. i think its more than what most of us were expecting. but thats just me....
