Why the fuck do bands do this... I hate this crap, i've never been more disappointed at a band in my entire life. They pulled the same shit mock orange did after they recorded "the record play". You take an amazing math rock style band and turn them into a slow indie band. I really hope their next full length is to the equivalent to "ribbons & sugar" or beyond that. This ep has 0 texture and it's nothing new and creative. Where's the 3/4 , 6/8, and 12/8 time signatures? .. oh how disappointing....
ok im done venting..

someone's mad because it doesn't sound like the same pop punk shit that bands have been dishing out for years, oh well

I am actually slightly dissapointed with it. Of course it is awesome, but it's an unexpected step down from ribbons and sugar. Hopefully this was just a little experimental break from what they are going to be making in the future.

I know a lot of you might be somewhat dissapointed with the EP. I was at first, but after more listens, I realize how amazing this really was. Atleast give it another 3 or 4 listens. If you're still not down with it, then it just wasn't meant for you. But I can tell you that once you give it more time, you'll be all over this and it will knock you off your feet!!

Ribbons & Sugar was far from pop punk. Their first album "Why We Fight" was technical pop punk stuff, but Ribbons & Sugar was insperational. It was something that was 100% different from anything I've ever heard. It sounded like they took 6 months to carefully write out each song. It's my favorite album of this decade so far.
The EP, after several listens is just too boring and relaxed. Where's the distortion? What happened to the rock? ...and just because it has distortion doesn't make it pop punk... this EP has emotion behind it and I like that, but the songs to me are just lacking creativity.
Listen to the new version of "The Badlands", I think it is #6 on the ep, then go on kazaa or something and download the old version. Your mouth will drop. Why they changed it? I have no clue.
Oh well, i guess it just saves me 8 bucks...

agreed . . . if you're gonna change it up slow-style then atleast try not to make it sound like that's what you're trying to do . . . I mean, there's good change and there's bad change and I am somewhat less than amused. All this tells me is that there's probably a conflict of musical interest somewhere and I wouldn't be surprised if these guys break up soon just as anatomy and small brown bike did after they're drastic changes . . . both great bands, but hey, you gotta go your separate ways someday

im not AS disappointed but i can definitely relate. GAD has been my favorite band for longer than i can possibly think. Ribbons & Sugar was beautifully genious and i was definitely looking forward to something up to its standard. the mathy-ness was incredible and i would never/can never get sick of that CD. this EP just sounds too slow, too plain and not enough structured. its not as unique. i too pray and hope that their next full length is in the same footsteps as R&S....and know its not poppy AnoFxI10, you fucking idiot. i guess for this EP ill go ahead and take Kam's advice and still love them.

your all dumb...its amazing...and how would doing weird time signatures be any different? so many do that now, an innovative band has to piss people like you off sometime, or they wont be innovative. Theres nothing out there like this EP

alot of people like them in that their music is very different from the stuff thats out their today, their song structures are very unique void of choruses in many songs, and the fact that their music just overall sounds good...

First of all.... stfu. I've followed this band since they were small as hell (I am aware that they still aren't huge) and everything they've created has come to be one of the greatest things I've ever heard. The point: if you hate it, keep your mouth shut and post on another thread. Simple.
Now, for what I actually came here to say... after listen 15 or so, my opinion is that this EP is brilliantly crafted, it's amazing... and for all of you who are complaining that it doesn't sound like Ribbons & Sugar... isn't that a good thing? If they kept the same exact sound for each of their CD's that'd become a little dull and redundant now wouldn't it... besides, Ribbons & Sugar was more of a concept album, and I'm sure this is too... the concept of Ribbons & Sugar was just easier to recognize.

word!...but i do disagree on one thing. Maybe its just because I had it explained to me before the first time hearing it, but i think the concept of this ones much more easier to recognize. "played the music we're supposed to for the dinasaurs" dinasaurs=closedminded record execs. kinda all goes along those lines.

yeah, heh I kind of started to notice the concept right after I posted that, I listened to the lyrics of "Yes, This Is About You" ... "We make music but we're not machines, and when we dissappear you'll know why. The signal is corrupted, the songs are uninspired... where's the fucking chorus?" The Land of Lost Monsters kinds of seems to be a metaphor for bands thrown away by labels or told that they need to change ... so I see the "in your face record execs" theme.

So I guess since i haven't followed this band as long as you have, i can't voice my opinion?... I still think this EP took 15 minutes to throw together, it's like they wanted something to tour with so they can make money this summer. I still think the band is amazing at what they do, but the EP is something that I wont be purchasing or listening to frequently.
..So if they kept the same exact sound for each CD the songs would become dull and redundant? These songs are dull and redundant. The EP is very boring in comparision to the technicalities Ribbons & Sugar. I just think it's their worst work so far and I hope it stops after this EP.
Like i said before. listen to badlands then go download the old version. The old version is amazing compared to the reconstructed version they put on the EP..
