He played from 8:20 - 10:50.

so tonight, i went to see my favorite artist of all time.

sir elton john.

i drove an hour away, and paid $255.00 for the ticket and didn't even think twice about doing so.

i know old school artist don't typically get covered on here but i just wanted to see what some of the users on here thought of elton john.
which brings me to a question :

which older bands / artist would you like to see / have seen ?

elton john wrote some damn fine music in the '70's but there is no fucking way his show is worth $255 these days.

I've seen Paul McCartney twice... if you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it. He plays for about 3 hours and it's absolutely incredible.

I'd love to see Elton John someday.

That setlist looks like an amazing show.
I'm assuming since you didn't say "omg that sucked" that he was on point and it was worth the money :-p

worth every fucking penny.

id do it again too.

personally, ive seen much better sets from him. apparently, this tour is in support of one of his newer greatest hits CDs, rocket man #1's.

most of the songs he played were singles, most likely off of that greatest hits album.

which is fine and all, but it was nice to see madman...,take me to the pilot, love lies and such.

would have really liked to hear burn down the mission live, though.

but i refuse to complain. as i said earlier, it was worth every penny.

im even planning a trip out to canada in setpember to see him again.

a few notes :
- he signed autographs for a couple dozen people in the first few rows for about 10 minutes before the encore.

- they jammed out the ending of almost every song, so the 24 song set felt much longer.

- there was no intermission. he went straight through the 22 songs before leaving the stage for less then 3 minutes, came back out for the encore.

- the sound was the best ive ever heard at any venue. everything was mixed perfectly.

- the light show was insane.

- $2.00 from every ticket sale was donated to Elton John's Aids Foundation.

everyone should see john mellencamp before they die.

EDIT: wow. that was my 100th post. what a pointless thing to say for such a monumental occasion.

I saw John Mellencamp play 4 songs at the Bridge School Benefit with Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young (and Good Charlotte... very odd bill and the BSB is 100% acoustic every year, but I had a blast) in 2005, and I will agree with you. The four songs he played got some of the loudest crowd response of the night.

Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young (in any combination) is another amazing live act.

I've seen the police, springsteen, tom petty, and the beach boys, all of which put on great shows for old timers. :)

I would really like to see Paul and Led Zeppelin if they do indeed go on tour.

damn, you and I have seen the same classics. Although, I recently saw Robert Plant w/ Alison Krauss in nyc and the show was excellent.

100% agree. springsteen absolutely destroys live. granted, it's not the 4 hour blood/sweat/tears marathons he used to do in the 70s, but asking for him to do that for 40 years is ridiculous. i've seen a few of his shows and the best i've ever seen him play was on his most recent tour. that doesn't happen too often.

as for elton john, up to Sacrifice and minus 'the bitch is back' (i've never liked that song, for some reason), that is a killer set. hell, you could probably talk me into paying a couple hundred just to hear funeral for a friend and madman alone.

yeah, funeral / love lies is a killer way to start off a set.
