one of the bands i'm playing in at the moment is a heavy hardcore/mosh band and i'm having a little trouble with feedback. i run a peavey ultra with a maxon od808 and a locally made guitar with an emg81 in it. i use a boss NS-2 noise suppressor. basically i'm wondering if anybody knows of a better pedal/unit to destroy feedback - i'm happy with my sound but if i turn the amp above about vol. 5 i get a half second of feedback at the end of each chug.

SO what do you use to control noise and feedback? any suggestions other than "turn the gain/volume/pickup down"?

Well a few things can help that.

Try turning down your gain a little bit. Also your EQ has something to do with that as well.

Last but probably the thing least responsible is a microphonic pick up in your guitar.

Those are feedback problems I've had in the past few months.

my guitar player puts a hair tie right above the first fret on the nut to help control his feedback

actually it might be above the nut now that I think about it haha

If you're willing to make a purchase, a gate/compressor will help with most of that.

You have a noise suppressor? You can set that up to completely destroy the feedback. Play around with it, a bit.
