Great, great band. Whatever People Say I Am... is a top notch album imo. Favourite Worst Nightmare is also great.

Strangely just getting into this band properly. I'd always liked them a bit, but not this much. The 2nd album sounds so much better now that I previously thought. Do Me A Favour <3

I'm not a huuuuuge fan, but I discovered them before they hit big in the US, and I love their first album.
I haven't listened to them in such a long time, though. I really need to get back into the habit of listening to them. I had a good friend who was from Germany who loved them, though, and so while he was in America, we listened to them a lot.

Yeah, they're much bigger in Europe me thinks.
I also prefer their first album, but their second is still good.

Yeah same, I find the first album pretty hard to fault personally. I remember when I first heard it and that was all i played solidly for a month and a while I think.
Like you said Mardy Bum is very good too.
I love the lyrics in it generally and how his vocals execute it.
I like when it goes:
"And yeah i'm sorry I was late, but I missed the train
and then the traffic was a state, and I can't be arsed
to carry on in this debate that reoccurs
Oh when you say I don't care but of course I do yeah,

I would recommend Whatever People Say.. It's just too damn good and epitomizes that whole sound from that period. It's just unfortunate to hell that everything since that has come out has been a terrible terrible version of that album

I get the feeling on the whole that a larger percentage of the British fans hold Whatever People Say I Am... as their favourite probably due to the lyrical content and more direct/clearly British influenced music style where as other fans around the world prefer Favourite Worst Nightmare. I fall into the latter though, anomaly.

Yep, that's pretty much it. I love the debut because of the fact that I can relate so much of it to myself, probably like most the people from here who listen to it.. I don't even know what he's on about half the time in the 2nd album.
I still think some of the b-sides from the debut should have been held back for the 2nd LP
1) Do Me A Favour
2) Brianstorm
3) Cigarette Smoker Fiona
4) Leave Before the Lights Come On
5) Who The Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys?
6) Teddy Picker
7) Flourescent Adolescent
8) Despair in the Departure Lounge
9) Balaclava
10) 505
11) If You Were There, Beware
12) Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts
That would be a boss album!!!

I love "This House Is A Circus" and "Old Yellow Bricks" too much though, and obviously they fit in so well with rest of the second album. "If You Were There, Beware" has to be my favourite from the second album though. The performance of it on their Live At The Apollo DVD is awesome. Highly recommend the DVD to any fan that doesn't have it yet:

I was gonna get that DVD, but I heard the reviews and I wasn't sure about the way they were describing the camera work. My favourite part of live DVD's is to see the crowd reaction and get the feel of being there. Oasis - There and Then, Red Hot Chili Peppers - Slane and some others are good too.

They have enough b-sides from each album to put out 2, 10-song, albums of just b-sides. I created these 2 "albums" on my iPod of Arctic Monkeys b-sides to be played after both sutdio albums:
Singles And EP, pt. I
1. Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts
2. Chun Li's Spinning Bird Kick
3. Stickin' To The Floor
4. 7
5. Settle For A Draw
6. Cigarette Smoker Fiona
7. Despair In The Departure Lounge
8. No Buses
9. Who The Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys?
10. Leave Before The Lights Come On
Singles And EPs, pt. II
1. If You Found This It's Probably Too Late
2. Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend
3. What If You Were Right The First Time?
4. Matador
5. Da Frame 2R
6. The Bakery
7. Plastic Tramp
8. Too Much to Ask
9. The Death Ramps
10. Nettles

Arctic Monkeys you mean? If so, yeah but it was before their debut album came out when only the first EP was out but they had literally just started playing "I Bet You Look Good..." on the radio. It was the carling tent at Reading and the pace was 5 times it's capacity with people just watching from way outside the tent because they couldn't get any closer, I was in there though;-)
The camera work on the DVD is stunning but if you're wanting lots of crowd shots, you won't like it. It's beautifully shot though.
If you meant have I seen Oasis or Chili's, I've seen Chili's but they bore me generally so wasn't a fan, in fact I was before I saw them live about 8 years ago. Not Oasis yet though.

Yeah I meant Arctic Monkeys. I saw them on the tour when the debut album had just come out. Was pretty good but nothing to write home about. Sounded a bit flat and the crowd singing was overpowering. I'm worried those issues will be one hundred times worse at Leeds.

I love the new Arctic Monkeys track, first listen I was "meh" but straight after it had finished I loved it and wanted to hear it again. Such a great build up/progression/use of layering, and been listening to it/singing chorus all day.
Guarantee a large portion of people will say "it's not the same/it's not as urgent/it's not as fun/it's boring" but frankly, those are the type of people that will be annoyed that they won't be able to jump around to it with their arms around their friends shoulders in a circle, like they can with "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" when it's sandwiched between The Killers - Mr. Brightside and The Kooks - Naive. And you know, those people don't count.

Oh, no, I enjoy some of The Killers too. But, I'm talking about those people you see at parties/clubs/ bars (over here at least) when you can guarantee the DJ will play a few "alternative" songs and they will always be those tracks I mentioned. With that, you always get a group of lads and girls, arms around eachother in a circle jumping around singing the lyrics because they insist on making some public declaration that they know these "cool" tracks. Those are the kinda people that will dislike this song, and those are the kinda people who's opinions don't count when taking this song into consideration.

I think it could be better in some ways, but for the most part I think it suits the sound pretty well. Then again I'm not familiar with much of Richard Ayoade's work as a director so I can't make any comparisons there... it does give me something else to look into over the summer, though.

Yeah, their live DVD is great, brilliant directing from him on that. One of my favourite live DVDs actually because of it, but it focuses on the band more than the crowd, so don't expect screaming fan shots etc. as well as Yeah Yeah Yeahs music video I mentioned, which is awesome.

Awesome. and me too. Most anticipated of the year fo sure.
For me, it was this album, and TV On the Radio's new release- which was amazing. I am hoping I feel the same about "Humbug"- which I am sure I will.

Tv on the Radio had a release this year? I thought it was last year.

Awesome. me too.
anyways, anyone have Dance Little Liar? Pretty Visitors?
found pretty visitors. anyone have the other one?
Guarantee a large portion of people will say "it's not the same/it's not as urgent/it's not as fun/it's boring" but frankly, those are the type of people that will be annoyed that they won't be able to jump around to it with their arms around their friends shoulders in a circle, like they can with "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" when it's sandwiched between The Killers - Mr. Brightside and The Kooks - Naive. And you know, those people don't count.
Hahahaha, missed this comment. Very well said. I won't lie, I think their best was Whatever... but FWN had some cracking tunes and I am delighted they are going in another direction. If you want that sound go listen to that album.
'My Propeller' sound great.

That was good, expected more songs, but awesome sound none the less. Swear there was a Nick Cave cover in there too. Can't wait to sit and give Humbug a proper listen on my headphones.

My favourite so far, without a doubt. Their new sounds and they way they have evolved even further with it all is great. Much prefer it to their debut already, more tailored to my taste.

I missed the transmission but I'm still looking forward to the new album. Crying Lightning has grown on me immensely, definitely their best single to date
Both those vids are great, 'Potion Approaching' is a cracking tune.
