I know it has become routine for my recommendations to be a day or two late, but I promise I'll try and get back on track this coming Sunday. Anyway, I decided to do something special for this weeks "recommendations" and am just going to post some records and bands that I was spinning in the 90s and still listen to every now and then. Mikey from My Chemical Romance (http://www.mychemicalromance.com) has joined me this week as well and will tell you all what you should be listening to.

Bush - Sixteen Stone
Gavin (lead singer) definitely has one of my favorite voices in rock music ever. That mixed with the straight up rock and great lyrics always made this album one of my favorites. I can still say that I listen to this album from time to time too. I don't think I could ever get tired of the way he sings 'Summer is winter and you always knew' in "Little Things."

Pearl Jam - Ten
For the longest time this was my favorite band and album. I've kind of grown out of Pearl Jam because I don't feel they bring the same passion and aggression to their music anymore, but this album will always mean something to me. "Black" is still one of my all-time favorite songs.

Stone Temple Pilots - Core
Scott Weiland definitely has to be one of the greatest frontman ever. Despite his problems that we're all aware of, he can definitely put on a great show. I'll never forget when I first heard "Creep." It was one of the first times a song / music blew me away. For the longest time I had that song on repeat. The album is just as good. Velvet Revolver just doesnt' do it for me.

Live - Secret Samadhi
This is another band that I feel has lost their touch, but their albums Throwing Copper, Secret Samadhi, and The Distance To Here still make their rounds in my player once in awhile. I think they have different yet brilliant lyrics and they sure know how to get loud (or use to at least). They have an awesome and one of the best live shows too.

Nirvana - Nevermind
Need I say more? This album (if you like or not) changed rock music as in the way it was made and within the industry itself. It may not be for you or you may think its overrated, but you should at least realize and be able to admit the impact it had.

Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness
I never had the oppurtunity to see this band live and its still one of my life's disappointments. I, however, still have this album to listen to. I got into this band because of the video for "Bullet With Butterfly Wings". I was hooked from that moment on. This could never leave the collection. Zwan was definitely not cutting it.

Dave Matthews Band - Crash
I must admit I'm a pretty big DMB fan. I use to be a bigger one, but I just love Dave's writing ability and could never stop listening to this band. I may not be as obsessed as I once was, but I still do enjoy all of their albums seeing as how each one is different and has its own vibe. Other than this one, though, the best one has to be Before These Crowded Streets (the band's personal favorite).

Now give it up for Mikey:

Mikey - My Chemical Romance

Hello all,

Here's some recent music that i think you should all check if you have a free moment.

Morrissey - You Are The Quarry
After seven years missing, Morrissey releases another record sure to please. Yet Again, its chock full of songs about how awesome he is, how much smarter he is than everyone, and how much he hates the United States. Although not my favorite Morrissey disc, its still quite amazing. "First of the Gang To Die" is the standout on here.

The Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight
Just when it was getting out of hand, The Cardigans ditch their bubblegum pop hijinx for something quite unexpected. They are now cowboys (??)...or an alt-country/brit-rock hybrid. This disc will do it's best of erasing the nightmares most of us still have of "Loving me Loving me Loving me loving me" being played 22 hours out of the day.

Muse - Absolution
I really haven't been this floored with a release since OK Computer (Radiohead) came out in 1997. When i first heard "Time is Running Out" it sent chills up my spine. I promptly ran out and plunked 27 american green backs to buy the import of this the day it came out. Prog Rock meets Jeff Buckley pretty much spells this one out. Or Queen meets the smashing pumpkins. If you don't already have this record, i urge you to go buy it. Fuck it, buy two.

Keane - Hopes and Fears
When i was in England this past week, i could not escape this album. Wherever i went, it was there. It was in the window of every single record store, bodega, restuarant, church, liquor store, supermarket, and book store. They might have been giving it away with new child births at hospitals too. This peaked my curiosity enough to buy it (and i'm glad i did). If Fran Healy from Travis were to join Ben Folds Five, it would sound something like this. Killers stuff, check it out. Much like Muse, i payed English import price and now it's only like 8 bucks at best buy. Just my luck!

Midtown - Forget What You Know
Our homies from New Jersey are set to release their best album yet on June 29th. This album will totally shut up everyone who talked shit, or doubted the rock power that is Midtown. "Give It Up" is still stuck in my head to this day from when i heard it months ago. Congrats boys!

I like Pearl Jam. I saw them a few years back when they were supporting Binaural. I agree that Ten is there best, but i still buy all there records and support them.

Ah, Bush and Live. Two of my old favorite. Sixteen Stone and Throwing Copper will always be favorite albums of mine. Live played a show on Carburetion Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway a couple of weeks ago, so I had the chance to see them again. It had been a while. It was a great show. They did a good mix of old favorites and new stuff. Lightning Crashes is still so amazing. :)

"Sixteen Stone" came out in 1994. I was 10. I can't believe how fast time flies. I remember when I got that record. Add these albums to my recommendations for that era:

Green Day - Dookie
Weezer - The Blue Album

Funny, Secret Samadhi is the only Live album I don't like from the three you mentioned, but V had them going every which way but the right way.
Bush is decent but you're right about Rossdale's voice, and you rock for liking DMB (although my favorite is their favorite, BTCS). Tonight, Tonight is still my all time favorite Pumpkins track.
As for Mikey's picks, I still can't believe Midtown is still two weeks away. Muse's Absolution is absolutely one of the best things I've ever heard. Their Stockholm Syndrome is constantly in my head. Now I have to check out Keane...

wow, best reccomendations i've seen on this site. I <3 the 90s (series of same name starts mid july on vh1). You should add Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms, and Toad the Wet Sprocket. I was never a huge fan of any of those three until this past year at school when i went on a 90s music binge and realized how much their respective sounds defined the era.

ps blue album is one of the greatest albums of all time

Stone Temple Pilots could quite possibly be the best post-grunge band ever.
