I am curious as to what you guys think of the current pope.

Personally, I believe he has been doing an amazing job bringing respect back to the Roman Catholic church. Hes taken great strides to unify religions, and not just the Abrahimic ones as well. Although, Im only a fairweather reader on him but from what ive read, Ive really enjoyed his stay as Pope.

He's doing a good job of getting youth involved in not just religion, but global issues as well.

until he installs people in believing there children won't be molested by a priest, Catholicism in America has a long way to go.

I know this only goes so far but he made a public apology and accepted blame for the scandals. like i said it only goes so far but he has to start some where.

You can't just say sorry though, I think there needs to be an active campaign to try and put Catholicism back in the good opinion.

it's fucked up that all of the molestation occured, but the majority of lawsuits that were brought forward stemmed from incidents that happened decades ago..........and many false claims were/are filed in the hopes of easy cash.

The rest of the American Catholic public doesn't see it that way. Not disagreeing with your point, just speaking on what I think is the general consensus of people.

yeah........but people are generally idiots.
something that pisses me off about the whole molestation scandal is the side-effects it's had on other christian churches.
here's an example on what i'm talking about........recently some lady filed a lawsuit against the orthodox church of america claiming a now dead priest had molestated her during confession.........only problem with that is that confession in the orthodox church is done out in the open in front of everyone........and in that particular community the children always had confession first, followed by the adults. so the lady effectively claims that she was molested by a long dead priest in front of all the adults in the congregation.

And your point is... Just because the incidents happened decades ago doesn't mean that they don't warrant a fair deal of suspicion from the public. And try to back up the word "many" with some sort of a statistic because it's a misleading term.

my point isn't that they should be ignored, it's that people should realize that it's not an ongoing thing.
i doubt if there's any collected statistics on how many lawsuits have been thrown out........but i'll check around later.

Richest institution on Earth and this man is the head of it. If only he'd reach out more to other faiths.

Uhh apparently you know nothing about him. He has done countless programs and masses about uniting faiths. Also, they have suffered a huge loss in funds due to all the lawsuits so im not sure you are speaking from fact rather than assumptions.

Uhhhh Nothing compared to the reaching that John Paul II did. He should be matching his footsteps toe for toe.

I like when he talks about how many bad things materialism has provoked. How about mysticism ?
Illogical pope like his predecessors.

He's a remnant from the past, which is fast fading in importance. His conservative stances are only going to inhibit the ability of the Catholic church to move forward in the future. What's more, until the church reconsiders the position it has taken on condoms in Africa, I see no reason to listen to the man.

From what I hear there is some nonsense written somewhere about something to that effect.

But I'm sure my callous statement will send someone who takes this writing straight to heart into a rage and they will clarify.
