it's for the sake of keeping things organized. so many of these miscellaneous threads turn into spamfests and become irrelevant anyway, especially if its a band that isnt very appreciated by the posting community. asking a question in the official thread will get you answers without spam because its only really going to be posted in, or even looked at, by someone who cares about the band. you may say its a bunch of posters being immature but really any moderator on duty would close this thread off and tell you to post in the official.
