I'm not from LI, but I'm from jersey..where is your band from?

Jim Morgan
06/16/04, 10:13 AM
Bridgewater, which is central nj

IF you want, come down to Hamilton Street in Bound Brook next week, we are playing back to back nites. On Tuesday, our friends (incredible incredible band) in For Felix are releasing their new cd (which is AMAZING). We are palying, along with The Suicide Pact and Forever The Way. Tickets are $8 at the door

On wednsday, we are playing with our friends in Hello Apollo, as well as Questions Left Unanswered, Robots Don't Dream, Between Arms, and one more TBA. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Where are you from?

im_random
06/16/04, 10:18 AM
Ohhh Bridgewater is close to me, I go to the mall there sometimes. I'm from Morristown.

Where the hell is Bound Brook though??

ohlookitspaul
06/16/04, 10:42 AM
i used to have an aunt and uncle that lived in succasuna (sp?), NJ and i used to visit sometimes...is that anywhere close?

im_random
06/16/04, 10:44 AM
Yeah, very close..I used to go to the movie theatre there when I was younger because my parents wouldn't let me go to the one in my town haha.

ohlookitspaul
06/16/04, 10:47 AM
haha oh ok. yeah i've flown there a few times...well, through newark anyways. i only remember the name of the city because that's what it always said on our Caller ID when they called: "Succasuna, NJ"

im_random
06/16/04, 10:52 AM
Yeah most people around here fly through newark..it's the closest cause Philly's too far and JFK and Laguardia (sp?) are a bitch to get to cause they're in the city. but anyway, succasunna isn't a town name you're likely to forget haha..it's not exactly common.

all I know is elmwood park...and rutherford...only two places in jersey I'll go near...I actually enjoy rutherford...a lot.

My band, Casual Blue, will be playing Hamilton Street on July 10.

PENNYROYALS

THE TROUBLEMAKERS

CASUAL BLUE

SKYLER

BLIND & DRIVING

PARKWAY SOUTH

I'm hoping it will be a good show. Anybody hear of some of these bands besides the pennyroyals? If you guys have some time, check us out on this date. Chris, our drummer, is the guy who owns Portrait Recording Studios (Early November, Starting Line, Dillinger Escape Plan, Midtown) so stop by to see him drum and to bug him with all the drive-thru questions he usually gets asked :lol2:

richter915
06/16/04, 11:39 AM
oh yes...down with the rest of jersey...it's like...inthe blood of all people from new york...we hate jersey...and anyone who tells you otherwise...is either lying to get in your pants...or...not really from new york.

im_random
06/16/04, 11:51 AM
you should like my town..just because..but lying to get in your pants..that reminds me of this one time when i was listening to the radio, the following conversation went down..and they're talking about how some guy wanted to get rid of ladies night in nj:

guy who called in: ladies night is unfair, why should chicks get to drink cheaper just because they have boobs?
radio guy: well..think about it..ladies night means more chicks in the bar, which means more chicks to sleep with
guy who called in: yeah, but why would i want to sleep with a chick from jersey?

i was like ouch.

richter915
06/16/04, 02:05 PM
hahahaha, that man must be from NY. ah man, that was great. he says it like it is dear.

im_random
06/16/04, 02:12 PM
haha he probably was considering it was a NY radio station. but really, my summer house is in ny and i take so much shit for being from jersey whenever i'm up there!

i'm going to make a whole bunch of shirts that say I (heart) NJ..just like those I <3 NY shirts..and throw them all over the city.

richter915
06/16/04, 02:19 PM

don't light jersey people on fire. all the built-up chemicals will burn and release toxins into the air, therefore killing you too.

good point good point...then we should bury all people from jersey 25 miles beneath the Earth's surface...they won't be able to harm us that way.

heh heh. I'm just messin with ya...all fun and games.

im_random
06/16/04, 05:25 PM
yeahh it's all fun and games until someone gets shot in the leg!!! (name that movie..anyone?!)

haha no for real though..let me guess, you probably think we all "tawk" funny too..right??

Well, there's this list of 69 ways you know you're from NJ..and let me tell you some of them:

You know that the only people who call it "Joisey" are from NY. (a truer statement has never been spoken)
You once said "It smells like New York in here." (Disgusting yet true all the same)
The rest of the list is here (http://orion.math.iastate.edu/rymartin/njokes.html) if you're so inclined to want to read it.

haha I love fighting for the sake of nj..even if i'm always outnumbered. :lol2:

richter915
06/16/04, 06:27 PM
I will check that out later. but, the only reason we might say that it smells like new york is cause jersey is NY's garbage dump. everyone knows that.

im_random
06/16/04, 06:35 PM
That was what one of the guys at my summer house said to me.."new jersey is just all of the city's trash with soil on top."

Please tell me you don't say joisey. that's the absolute worst.

richter915
06/16/04, 06:48 PM
no, that's some NY stereotype...we don't all talk like that. we're one of the most diverse cities...not everyone says jersey like that. I personally think it's retarded.

im_random
06/16/04, 06:55 PM
good, because it's fucking annoying..and i meant when people talk normally and just say it like that to sound funny or something.

people from nj talking funny is a stereotype too, not everyone does. people from south jersey though..i dunno, can't trust those ones :wink3:

Jason Priestley
06/17/04, 07:26 AM
Here's a Jerseyan Secret. New Yorkers think Jersey Smells for a reason. We put smelly port and industrial towns like Elizabeth right around you guys to scare you away from discovering how much better Jersey is than New York. I must say. LI kinda sucks (way more traffic). And the rest of NY (manhattan and buroughs excluded) is like the friggin boondocks of America.

I'd go to a show but by the time i get home from work its usually 7:30. then it'd be like a 50 minute drive to bound brook. God i hate nyc commuting.

By the way, wow, i'm happy to see one person saw us at Skate & Surf. Ok, probably a good couple of hundred and we were much better off than some bands that totally got stiffed. But seriously, even if we were on the arcade stage. Competing against Bouncing Souls and Sparta....yeah that's a tough act. Even worse was our friends Centsless. They were on during Something Corporate!!!! (ouch).

But yeah, I dont go to Bridgewater much because there are three decent malls within 10 minutes or so of my house. But Bridgewater is nice.

I would come to one of your shows, but I don't drive..yet..

Yeah. That's what i heAR. The music scene is much cooler over there. Also, good whether year round must be great for shows. It is interesting to see the difference in music between west coast and east coast. Peeps from the west coast in general have much happier, Think phantom planet, rooney, isn't yellowcard from cali. On the east coast like jerz and ny, we got bands like taking back sunday, ten, brand new, etc. Its just something i noticed.

Wow, I never thought about that..but now that I do you're completely right. The east coast does have some happier bands though..like Dispatch, Guster, O.A.R..a lot of the stoner bands are from the east coast, but I agree with what you said about the east coast/west coast trend in music.

richter915
06/18/04, 07:33 PM
The Starting Line is from Philly...that's east coast enough I guess. NFG is from Florida...technically east coast. Strike Anywhere is from Richmond Virginia...sorta east Coast.

let's just agree that nothing mention worthy comes out of the midwest (cept for Rise Against woooo)

Oh ya, biggest unhappy band of all time comes from the West Coast...Nirvana.

maybe those west coast bands seem happier and more upbeat, but ever think about how fake everything is on the west coast? you have to dig through so much crap to find anything or anyone that's real.
