I havent given them a propper listen, so they're decent? Is it predominantly screaming?

I love their music so much and I can't wait for the new release. They bring something "fresh" to the table. Although they havent made anything groundbreaking, but they're good at what they do. I'm stoked for the new release with Brennen on vocals.

Oh my god, I am so enticed to see another generic, cootie-cutter Rise band. This label is completely dispicable and has been ruining the scene since 2005. what the fuck ever happened to reinventing band such as Thursday/ Music is a commodity used just for shits and giggles, fuck rise

Yes, they are worth checking out. It's largely screaming, but they do incorporate some melody. The real difference though is that they stress atmospheric instrumentation over chug guitars and powerchords.

It can have it's own style, but that doesn't mean it's going to revolutionize a genre.

Agreed, but there are a few really good bands on that label that have their Rise Records stigma carried on to them. But then again, 70 percent of the rest of the bands are just piles of forgettable crap.

Matthew Tsai
03/21/09, 03:33 PM
they sound just like the rest of the scene. no powerchord breakdowns? so what? they still play the same generic thing. their major influence is underoath. if they derive their stuff from underoath, it can't get much better than the average scene band, no matter how many powerchord breakdowns they don't use. underoath doesn't have many powerchord breakdowns either, but they're nothing special.

band sucks.

I definitely believe that these guys are one of the better acts in their genre. Their new record should be even better than The Tide.

Please don't start that argument. Basically, Rise tends to sign trendy bands. That's the whole 4-page spanning argument in like one line.

If people don't like this style of music, they won't like Oceana. I swear hardcore/metalcore bands get the most unnecessary shit on this website

Exactly. It seems that every single band(minus Oceana) gets a lot of shit on this site and to be honest, it's all completely unecessary.

I have no idea myself, it's absolutely fucking ridiculous. Most of the people that talk shit on this label could name you only 5 bands. Two of those will be The Devil Wears Prada and Drop Dead, Gorgeous, two bands no longer on Rise.

I'm fucking sick of it.

whoever says oceana is just like every other rise band is so wrong.

they use a lot of open chord stuff, but they have really enticing experimental lead riffs. and i think the vocals are amazing. i do have to say though, not a big fan of the new album, there's almost no screaming.

They're both good but completely different. Birtheater is more experimental with fewer breakdowns and more clean vocals. The Tide is heavier and has some cool ambient riffs.

It's so pro life because the vocalist Brennan was supposed to be aborted, keep that in mind.

Well that would explain a few things. I'll give credit for him to share something like that, that is a pretty awful thing for someone to carry with them and I'll give him my respect. However, as someone who is pro-choice, the record didn't sway my opinion on the matter. However, if this record changes other people's mind on the subject, more power to them and the band.
