I'm about to start my venture into in-ear monitors. What are some pitfalls I should look out for? Suggestions? etc...

...hahahaha
Uh, make sure they don't SUCK. Bad monitors could, you know, damage your hearing. Be careful.

if you're only going to be using it for yourself, the shure psm 200 is what i started with. worked great. they work better with venues who have a sound guy that knows how to use them. a lot of venues we played on tour were just like "k....how do i plug this in?". I just use the stage monitors now that i play guitar and sing and aren't moving all over the stage and jumping over the wedge monitors.

I'm thinking of just bringing a PA where they push the monitor out to my PA, with in-ear monitors. I'm not sure if this will be just for me, or for the full band yet.

you can always run the mic cable straight to the in-ear receiver, then into the PA but you'll only be getting vocals in your ears, no other instruments or reverb or anything.

Westone's are what I use. they're phenomenal. the quality of the upper level Shure ears, but significantly lower in price.

Does anyone ever run into problems where venues don't ever have the proper hook up for them?
That's one thing that's held me back for the past 6 months from buying them.

the only places that deal with them regularly are the 500+ capacity venues we've played. mostly churches too. anything smaller, the sound guys thought i was pompous because we brought our own mics and in-ears. just know how to set it up and if all else fails, use ear plugs and get a good mix in your wedges and don't complain about it.....even though they should get with the 90's
