I am lucky enough to be joined by the legend, Chris, lead singer of Saves The Day (http://www.savestheday.com) this week, so here are some things I've been watching, reading, and listening to this past week first:

1) Yesterdays Rising (http://www.yesterdaysrising.com)
2) Craigs Brother (http://www.craigsbrother.com)
3) Side One Dummy Records (http://www.sideonedummy.com)
4) Motion City Soundtrack (http://www.motioncitysoundtrack.com)

Books:
1) Notes from the Underground - Dostoevsky

Movies:
1) Heat
2) LA Confidential

----------------------------
Chris:

The Stooges-Raw Power: In my opinion, this is THE quintessential punk rock record by THE quintessential punk rock band. Iggy Pop's lyrics are brilliant and he sings with a bad ass snarl that almost strangles you with it's ferocity. These songs jump out of the speakers and bang your head against the wall.

The Damned-Damned, Damned, Damned: Yet another must have punk rock record. In my opinion, before listening to the watered-down punk rock music of today, you ought to check out the Damned and the Stooges. The song writing is unmatched. Beautiful and insightful lyrics. The Damned is the real thing, not the fashion savy Sex Pistols. These guys are lunatics.

Howlin' Wolf-Howlin' Wolf/Moanin' in the Moonlight: This CD of two Howlin' Wolf records should be in every rock & roll fan's collection. These tunes are the grandparents of rock & roll. The songs are infectious. If this music doesn't make your feet tap, there's something wrong with you.

Curtis Mayfield-Curtis: The song "Move On Up" alone is worth the price of this record. Hear the insanity in Mayfield's rhythms and melodic grooves. The bass lines are brilliant and the melodies are beautiful. This album was important in pushing pop music to it's limits in both structure and social awareness.

The Bad Brains-Banned in D.C.: If you want to hear true insanity on record, here's the album for you. Unbelievable songs and unparalleled aggression. The singing is abosultely possessed. Hear them flailing in punk rock purgatory and then turn on a dime into reggae ritual. This is schizophrenia at it's best.

Jason, it's www.craigsbrother.net, .com is a bad link duder.

Also, I've finally begun to really enjoy In Reverie as a great pop record. It hits me the same way as Weezer's Green Album. It's a fun album to turn your head off to and dance around, or drive. However, Chris has been listening to some badass records, and he should incorporate that into the next album.

i've been rockin

underoath - they're only chasing safety. this is a lot better than i thought it would be. i couldn't understand what all the hype was for when i first heard of this album. even after listening to a song or two, i wasn't sold. however, about a week later, it all started sounding a lot better.

blood brothers - burn, piano island, burn. i picked this up at a cd store the other day not really knowing what to expect but i had heard it was good and it really is. sort of reminds me of the mars volta at times but is pretty infectious.

beastie boys - to the 5 burroughs. rad.

I think we owe a lot to Chris from Saves the day for his contribution to the "punk" music scene. I like all STD's records, but my favorites have always been the older ones. It looks like chris is moving out of his early pop phase, and hopefully some of the old saves the day energy will come back for their next album.

Early Saves the Day is awesome but Stay What You Are always manages to find its way into my cd player once a month or so. Since everyone else is stating what they listened to this week heres mine...
Built to Spill - Ancient Melodies of the Future
All Time Quarterback - Ben Gibbard's early stuff, in my eyes he is a music genius.
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Karate - The Bed Is in the Ocean. Outside is the Drama is one of my all time fave songs

I loved In Reverie...I always like it when a band puts out an album that doesn't sound just like the last one that they did. I've been listening to:

Further Seems Forever-The Moon Is Down
I'm looking forward to hide nothing...light up ahead is great song!

Yellowcard- One For the Kids
One of my favorites...the new spiderman song is good too.

The Rocket Summer- Calendar Days
Happy Album that always puts me in a good mood.

My band has a new song on purevolume.com/northofsandiego
if anyone wants to check it out...it's alright...we recorded it at our house on our computer...studio time is way too expensive!

were you able to ask chris if the next STD tour will have old songs being performed? i'd like to go to another show of theirs without having to hear the entire in reverie

Yeah, dude! From what I heard on this site about a week ago, they're gonna be playing a little something off each record. They're also reportedly taking requests, too.

All he did was state his opinion of STD's music. Why is that so bad.

it's just bad timing, we should all try to keep positive energy towards STD.

This isn't negative energy towards the members of STD. He didn't attack them personally. It was just his opinion of their music. What happened was a tragedy, but it's completely unrelated to the music itself.
