I've been getting ready for tour with Race The Sun. I start with them on July 1st, so you all better come to the shows and hang with us. Joe from We.re All Broken (http://www.wereallbroken.com) is sharing his recommendations with all of us too, so let us know what you think in the replies. I'll tell you what I've been tripping out to lately:

The Beatles - Revolver
The Mercury Program (http://www.mercuryprogram.com) - most beautiful music ever. guitars, bass, drums, vibraphone player/ no vocals.
Godspeed You Black Emperor - a bunch of insane dudes that make trippy records, just go buy one of them; you won't be bummed.
Phoenix - french. shreddage.
These Arms Are Snakes - these dudes have awesome riffs. You're probably ripping them off in your room, right now. Seriously.
Kill Sadie - Pedal core.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so this is my 1st time doing any public recommendations so please
bare with me. To explain myself briefly, I’ve been a drummer for about
10 years now and I must shamefully admit that recently I have become
somewhat of a music snob. Honestly I probably sound stuck up when I
say this but I hardly hear anything new that really blows me away. So
I decided to dig a little bit lately…looking for influences of my
influences. So my recommends are what is currently playing in my cd
player. So you might not find much “punk” in some of my picks but my
“punk” roots I guess are the inspiration.

1) Folly – Insanity Later.
THESE GUYS ARE OUT OF THEIR FUCKING HEADS! This record is absolutely
incredible. Definitely one of the few newer bands out there which has
caught my attention lately. Metal/hardcore/ska, however you want to
label them, they cover a lot of ground and wear it all so well. I’m so
excited to say that we are going on tour with them next month and I get
to see them every night for 2 weeks.

2) Frank Zappa – Hot Rats
This is one of about a hundred records that Zappa has released in his
time. Mostly an instrumental record that every time I listen to it gets
me more and more excited. This has been the record that has started my
day for the past couple of months and always puts me in good mood.

3) Johnny Cash – American IV: The Man Comes Around
I never gave Cash a 2nd thought until I heard the Nine Inch Nails’
“Hurt” cover. One of my many nights of insomnia I caught that video
really late and song along with the video was mind blowing. There’s
definitely something that Cash brought to the table with this song that
NIN didn’t. In a weird but awesome way it’s as if they are 2 different
songs. The rest of this record is of course just as incredible. You
can’t go wrong with Cash doing a Beatles cover. Something about ol’
Johnny’s voice that says “Everything’s going to be alright”, no matter
what song it is.

4) DJ Shadow – Endtroducing
What can I say??? This is definitely one of my favorite records of all
time. This has been in every part of my life since I got it years ago,
consistently in my cd player and I doubt it will be leaving anytime
soon. For some reason I cannot get sick of this record. It always
seems to fit no matter what mood I’m in. Every time I listen to it I
still hear things I have never heard before…this record goes so much
deeper than face value.

5) Failure – Fantastic Planet
This is another record that hasn’t left my cd player since I got it.
Although recently I have found something more about this record, the
last 10 tracks are probably even better than the first half of the
record. There is definitely something about the way they do their
drone-y, sludge rock that is absolutely incredible.

Sorry about the lack of “punk” on this list but these are all recent
inspirations.

Failure's Fantastic Planet is one of the most overlooked, underrated albums of all time. I totally agree with you. At first its the beginning half of the record that hooks you in, then the 2nd half closes the deal. Totally original and one of the most 'spacey' bands i've ever heard. Good choice
