Word on the street is that the new Taking Back Sunday album leaked to the internet. If anyone has it and wants to send it to me, my screen name is What It Is 2Burn... I really want to review this!

Por Vida

its 3/4's hype, 1/8 decent guitar work and the other 1/8 consists of the rythm section trying to be tech.

Right now I'm being through with listening to it for the first time and I have to say that it well lives up the hype (at least in my humble opinion). It isn't "radiofriendlier" than their previous (genious) one. I don't know if it is as good as tell all your friends though.

Listened to it once already, . . .I don't want to bring myself to believe it, but it's not that great. It just sounds noisy, not really like music. This is a different Taking Back Sunday and it shows, I can't fault them for it, but it just shows that John Nolan probably wrote most of Tell All Your Friends.

and god bless him for it.

if only tbs were decent live, i could enjoy them recorded that much more knowing i can go to a show and not want to tie the mic cord around adam's throat.

many of you wouldve said the same thing about this album regardless if john nolan was still with the band... "F.P. Mascho" is still damn talented though...

but of course the music was going to change...and it did...not drastically...just a little more produced-sounding

It seems to me that the new album is a lot different than their last, but isn't that a good thing? (I've only heard 3 songs off it so I can't judge the album yet)

No offense to TAYF, but I really hope this album sounds nothing like it- Their last CD was great, but everyone's heard it a million times and their sounds already been ripped off.

Either way people will be dissapointed with this cd. If the sound is the same, people will say they didn't evolve- If it's different, people will say it's not the old TBS- every band faces this problem, people eventually seem to deal with it

Dedicated or not this CD still sucks. I'm sorry. I gave it a fair chance, but just go listen to Straylight Run and you'll see where the lyrical talent went. I'm sure Nolan also knew a thing or two about music theory because this CD, is at best, a cacophonious mess. It's noisy and stupid. The Union is the most god awful thing I've heard in a long time.

Here is my review for the album:
Someone better start sucking John Nolan's rectum to get him back in the band. Tell him to bring his hot sister too. That is his sister right?

the best part of this worthless thread is the fact that no one remembers two weeks ago. you know, when everyone was raving and raving about that over-produced piece of shit My Chemical Romance put out. you know, the one that was really poppy and "radio-friendly".

for the record, the new MCR isn't a piece of shit. it's mature. and produced by someone who knows what they're doing. much like the new tbs record. pull your heads out of your asses, get over your 'john is better/adam is better' biases and enjoy your music for what it is.

this goes out to the band 7 hour drive. why must you insist on posting about your band on every thread that is popular on here. i'm sure we are all in a shitty band & none of us really care to much. i mean look i am too but i don't constantly post go to my site blah blah when its a post about taking back sunday. put it in your signature & quit being a dick about it or wait until someone from ap.net decides to give you props instead of having it forced down their throats. i mean one time i checked them out & gave you guys a chance, but now I'm just too annoyed to even bother to offer support. sorry if i sound like a dick as well but after i saw it for the 553rd time it started to get on my nerves.

hey, you're right.

i've thought about it- people would complain about this record no matter what. if it was the same as TAYF people would give them shit (even if john was in the band), and if its too different they'll blame it on the fact that john (and shaun) left.

my opinion is gold, jerry, gold.

i didn't say sal didn't do a good job, but it is obviously under-produced. maybe it's better that way. MCR's first cd was better that way, but the new one's still great.

i didn't say you had to love the new record. if you find it "unenjoyable", that's cool, just don't play the musical race card - loss of old members. the fact that straylight run is 1/4 as good as tbs answers that question. the same way that nightmare of you is about 1/30000 as good as movielife. and i really like nightmare of you. chances are you dont' care though, b/c i don't agree with everything you say, therefore, i'm fucked. and i'm glad, b/c i'm the shit, and everyone knows it. just ask jared.

Jason.

Okay...listen #3. I'm in love with "I Am Fred Astaire", "Little Devotional", "Number Five With A Bullet", "New American Classic", "Slowdance On The Inside" and just about all the songs we've heard before the CD leaked. The only one that doesn't really do anything for me at all is the opening track. This CD is great though, different but still something great in it's own way.

Holy shit Tate, and you actually once told Refused to quit going to Yellowcard posts because he always bashed them. You never have anything good to say about TBS, why bother posting about them, as you say to Refused? Just a question, I just wonder when I always see the badness from you. I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, no need for that, I am just curious.
I have listened to the 3 existing songs everyone had heard, Set Phasers to Stun and I am Fred Astaire and I think it sounds great after one listen. I suggest give it time to everyone.

I reviewed it a few weeks ago, here's the review that will never be posted anywhere but here, I don't give albums bad reviews in our database (http://forum.absolutepunk.net/reviews/showproduct.php?product=342) for reasons as I have explained many many times - but, this is just my ramblings on the album anyways .. don't hate me too much after this - part of it is that I spent the last 2 days listening to Say Anythign and Finch non-stop .. and you can't really beat that.

Uhm, hello there, can I have your attention please: will the real Taking Back Sunday please stand up?

Regardless of the copy cats that have sprung up in recent months, regardless of the band name, the trademark off key vocals, the drama, the hype, the attitude - the album sitting in front of me for review, is not Taking Back Sunday. This is not the band that infused Lifetime, Saves the Day, and Thursday together to create a fresh unpolished, desperate sound. I don’t care what anyone tells me, I refuse to admit this is the same band.

I am stuck at a crossroads with my review. As I listen to the CD for the fourth time I realize I stand, much like the naked baby on the album cover, looking down a desolate road. I have two options: one) to take the way the baby is pointing and review this album as if there was another band name on the cover and therefore as though I am reviewing a new and different band, or two) to head the opposite way down the road and review the album as though it is the same band that I fell in love with some three years ago. As I ponder my decision, I realize that I don’t actually have to choose which hat to wear as I review this album - because, to be honest, the album is (regardless of which way I walk), not very good. Before this album TBS were almost innovators. They were, as I said, the fusion of some of the top rated bands of all time. With this album they now will inevitably draw comparisons to Story of the Year and Three Days Grace.

The album starts with some weird vocal effects, uhm, I am sorry – this is not a Linkin Park album, what the fuck is this shit? The same chorus repeated 15 times? Uhm… excuse me, are we listening to that Fanta commercial again? I don’t understand. Where did the scream of desperation go? Where did the shortness of breath go, the sounds that made their last album live and breathe. Why do the screams sound so electronic? Am I jaded? Am I mad? Fuck yes I am! This is the same sound I can find in any of the 30 demo CDs sent in by kids across the nation sitting at my feet. And, yes folks, this is the best song on the CD.

So, I have a serious math question for those that have graduated the 5th grade. What comes before two? I can’t fathom naming a song Bonus Mosh (I’m obviously not cool enough to get it), however; I can fathom even less naming a song “part 2” when no “part 1” exists. I absolutely hate this song, and especially the lyrics. I said so before I ever heard the album that I would be skipping this track, and I can’t even listen to it now.

The third track, the obligatory single spot, is the best song The All-American Rejects have ever released. I love it. It’s fucking catchy (that’s what happens when a line is repeated, over, and over - ad nauseam), it’s a good little ditty with electronic overproduced screams that would make John Feldman jealous – but screw that, it’s a damn good single.

We move from here to the Spidey soundtrack song, This Photograph is Proof. The instruments are crystal, clear, and compact. The lyrics are lines every high school kid has scribbled on his notebook as poetry hundreds of times (I held TBS to a higher standard than most bands in terms of lyrical prowess, my expectations were too high). The vocals are … weird - they don’t fit how glossed the instruments sound.

The Union is horrible. Formula: Sing three lines; add stupid effects, scream, and repeat.

Ashlee Simpson wrote New American Classic.

I Am Fred Astaire sounds like every other song on the album, I yawned through it.

So do the next three songs.

The last song continues the tradition of stealing lyrics from all of their old material, and continuing to help me realize that there is nothing here that invokes any sort of emotion from me at all. It’s all hollow and fake.

The attacks that will likely spew from this review will come towards my musical tastes, and the bands I purport to like. The great logic that will be used is that because of the bands I like, my opinion means nil and is therefore void. I agree. My opinion means nothing: I am a fucking kid sitting behind a computer telling you what I think of a CD, nothing else. You should form your own judgments. Will this CD do well? Yah, probably. The Hot Topic, story of the mall kids are going to fucking love this – but I have a strong inkling that the kids and fans that brought the band to the level they are currently at, are going to feel just like me: cheated. Not cheated out of their money per se, but cheated out of the album that could have been.

As a whole this album reminds me of the ex-girlfriend who calls you six months after she breaks up with you, and you get that tiny feeling in the pit of your stomach that resonates a tiny bit of residual feelings, however; after you hang up the phone, you realize, without a shadow of a doubt, that you are completely over her, and all her little tricks.

I hope it takes a long time for the new Brand New album too. If one thing is for sure it is that quality takes a shit load of time. If you didn't like the three songs that were released (Bonus Mosh, Decade, and This Photograph) then odds are you won't like the CD. I think too many people set their expectations way too high. I can't really blame you, but I exepct this album to be great. I haven't downloaded it, and I don't intend to, but TBS is my favorite band, so much so, that I still think they will be even after I have the new album for a few weeks. This is a different band in some ways, different people are writing the songs and playing them, I think you have to accept that first before you listen to this.

i agree with you. i mean what were you guys expecting?? no matter what they did, it wouldnt be good enough for some people. i want people to hate it, to me that means it will probably be a great cd. how can you reveiw an album that you have only listened to a couple of times, and have only had it acouple of days. it doesnt matter if you sit there and listen to it 10 times in a row, you need to experience it in different moods, different settings, and let it sink in. i remember my friend playing TAYF for me the first time, i hated it. i was like wtf is with this band, they sing, then randomly scream, theres like 3 different hooks per song, and that damn high pitch shit in the background (which is a huuuge improvement for the new cd). i hated it. when i first heard deja entendu i was dissapointed. but with both of those cd's i gave it time, the lyrics sank in and i found myself singing the songs in my head before i relized how amazing they are. if you listen to the cd and like it the first time, chances are its going to loose its charm really quickly. so to all of you that feel discuraged after reading some of these posts, wait acouple weeks, then see what people are saying, ignore the reviews thus far and be patient,

ok so, yeah i totally agree with this post. the new stuff, sure it is so different than tayf, but i was expecting this. bosh mosh is def one of the better tbs songs, and photograph and decade are prety dec too. i really hope that the lyrics for the rest of the songs are better than photograph, cuz i mean, they're really pretty basic. i too am not gonna give in to downloading this ish.. i can wait another month. i have been a tbs fan for about four years and i am totally looking forward to it. the only thing i am not looking forward to is how the number of 13 year old avril lavine wanttobe's at their shows is gonna quadrooplifie.

it's all over limewire and all of those free music programs. You just have to know what all the song titles are and you are set.

Good job at falling perfectly into the trap I set up in my review. I applaud you for being that dumb.

I love when the new cd was first mentioned anyone talking crap on it was told...
"...You can't judge the cd before you hear it..."

Then one song got out and people would said it sucked were told
"...You can't judge the cd one track..."

Then there was about 3 tracks floating around out there and people predicting the cd being terrible were told...
"...You can't judge the whole cd off of a couple tracks wait until you hear the whole thing..."

NOW THE WHOLE CDS OUT!!! aw did you run out of excuses why it's nowhere close to their old cd in greatness?

i have it now too. probably better than a lot of albums i own, but definitely doesn't hold a candle to tell all your friends.

the main difference is that where tayf seemed to have a "two (sometimes three) songs in one" quality, this album doesn't. when john used to sing back up, he used to sing entirely different lyrics, as if he were singing a completely different song. this time around, fred just backs up adam.

also, what is the name of the other demo song labeled as "...slowdance on the inside" and why is it not on the album? it was hands down the best of the demos...

this album is real good. fred ruled in breaking pangaea and now he rules here. i don't think the album is radio friendly, but it's definitely different from the last album.

Its funny that if someone calls tate out on being the gossip queen that he is, he all of a sudden hates their music.

the old song was with the old band, they were playing it live right before john and shaun left. i guess they just kept the name, because the song is obviously nothing like it used to be.

I like the first three songs a lot, then my mind just wanders back to them 'til the last track. It's not a very ADD-friendly album. Then again, once the songs start developing some sort of context for me, I'll probably like the album a lot; people tend to like music when they can attach it to people/places/memories in general, regardless of whether or not it's actually "good" music (whatever defines "good").

I think it didn't make the cd cause it was the worst song ever written imho, and thats all that counts.

i agree with you. i mean what were you guys expecting?? no matter what they did, it wouldnt be good enough for some people. i want people to hate it, to me that means it will probably be a great cd. how can you reveiw an album that you have only listened to a couple of times, and have only had it acouple of days. it doesnt matter if you sit there and listen to it 10 times in a row, you need to experience it in different moods, different settings, and let it sink in. i remember my friend playing TAYF for me the first time, i hated it. i was like wtf is with this band, they sing, then randomly scream, theres like 3 different hooks per song, and that damn high pitch shit in the background (which is a huuuge improvement for the new cd). i hated it. when i first heard deja entendu i was dissapointed. but with both of those cd's i gave it time, the lyrics sank in and i found myself singing the songs in my head before i relized how amazing they are. if you listen to the cd and like it the first time, chances are its going to loose its charm really quickly. so to all of you that feel discuraged after reading some of these posts, wait acouple weeks, then see what people are saying, ignore the reviews thus far and be patient,
I totally agree, when thursday's full collapse first came out i was new to the type of music and i was like its shit, I hated the screamign but then i picked it up a few weeks later again and i was like wow, Timing is everything.
