Just saw this.
Damn you David Lynch for making a movie that's so confusing, yet so interesting!

I like Lynch. I love Naommi Watts (her face + body, to be exact), and it's got an 8.0/10 on IMDB, so that's what made me buy it. I'd think you should rent it or something but I'll be watching it soon and posting what I think

You're in for a treat if you are a fan of Naomi Watts, especially at the very end of the film.

David Lynch's 10 Clues to Unlocking This Thriller:
Pay particular attention in the beginning of the film: at least two clues are revealed before the credits.
Notice appearances of the red lampshade.
Can you hear the title of the film that Adam Kesher is auditioning actresses for? Is it mentioned again?
An accident is a terrible event... notice the location of the accident.
Who gives a key, and why?
Notice the robe, the ashtray, the coffee cup.
What is felt, realized and gathered at the club Silencio?
Did talent alone help Camilla?
Notice the occurrences surrounding the man behind Winkies.
Where is Aunt Ruth?

I've only seen Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire, but as far as I know all of his films are this way. And im not a fan.As far as I know, you should watch more than a director's two newest, and most heavily criticized, movies before deciding that "all his films are this way."
Any of his other work is a better starting point than those two.

Thats why I said as far as I know, I wasn't saying for a fact that they were all like that. I'll probably pick up Eraserhead tonight, any recommendations for which ones I should be watching?

It's radical, but not to the point of near absurdity like some of his other stuff. Then I'd go with Wild at Heart, Lost Highway and Twin Peaks, if you have the time. While Eraserhead is one of his most important films, it would likely be nothing more than an exercise in futility for someone who's unsure of whether they're into him.
And yea, I hope Cronenberg returns to sci-fi/fantasy with his next one.

I'll probably try finding Blue Velvet then, and as much as I enjoyed History of Violence and Eastern Promises, I need some classic Cronenberg. I actually have Spider sitting on my table that I need to watch, one of the few films of his I haven't seen yet.

The guy behind Winkies is so creepy.
I still don't really get his significance.
From what I got, I think the first half of the film is Diane's dream, and the second half is the reality. Her ideal life is far different than what it, in fact, actually is.

The man behind Winkie's is a symbol for the horrifying reality of Diane killing Camilla, something Diane doesn't want to face. You're right, the first half of the film is a dream of Diane's, and it's filled with symbolism that parallels her actions in real life. For example, the creepy guy is at Winkie's because Winkie's is the place where Diane arranged to have Camilla killed. "Rita"'s accident happens on Mulholland Dr. because that's the place where, in real life, Camilla stopped the car and led Diane to the party where she announced her engagement to the director. "Rita" falls madly in love with "Betty" because Camilla broke up with Diane in real life, which devastates her.
I fucking love this movie.

I really wasn't a fan of Lost Highway at all. Blue Velvet is a great starting point for watching Lynch.

You at least have to admit that the party scene with Robert Blake is amazing. And by amazing I mean creepy as shit.

Blue Velvet, I think, is Lynch's weakest. Why people so often cite it as his best is beyond me.
Mulholland Dr. is by far is most realized work (and my personal favorite, by far). Eraserhead is just as good.
I think that Lost Highway reaches moments of pure genius (the aforementioned party scene), but also suffers at points (Rammstein in the background of that scene towards the end). The same can be said of Wild At Heart--he's a master of creating striking imagery, but he can't always make it all come together. INLAND EMPIRE is a wonderful experiment that is, at times, grating, but it also has scenes of pure terror.
If you want to get into Lynch, just dive in with Mulholland Dr.--you either get Lynch or you don't.

haha yeah I agree with that.
The ending of LH really pissed me off. Even though I'm usually confused as fuck after I watch a Lynch film for the first time, it usually leaves me with a desire to want to watch it again. LH did not.

Does Target sell any Lynch films?

Does Target sell any Lynch films?
I would highly doubt it. If they did it would only be Mulholland Drive. Most stores like Circuit City or Best Buy only carry Mulholland Drive so I don't see why Target would be any different.
Although my local record store sells all of the lynch films, so if you have something like that near you, you might want to check that out.
