Kerrang! gave Taking Back Sunday (http://www.takingbacksunday.com)'s show at the Astoria in London the highest ratting of "KKKKK", or "incredible." The review can be seen here (http://www2.fanscape.com/takingbacksunday/images/kerranglivelg.jpg).

I have found them to be amazing live. The crowd interaction (and reaction) is incredible. I have never seen a crowd get so into a band.
i was at that show, and it was fucking amazing

Because I wouldn't want people to waste money on going to their show when they could spend it going to a better show (and I'm being serious about that). I wish I had every dollar I wasted seeing them live so I could have seen better shows. You can discredit it and still pay the money but that's your own fault because someone warned you. The crowd interaction is nothing special...most shows which bring a more musically-oriented audience (for example the Bouncing Souls, Avail, Unseen, etc. show) have a crowd interaction that TBS wouldn't dream of. It's not my fault people are idiots at this show. But I will warn people that their SOUND (you know, all the shit coming from the speakers) is some of the worst, if not the worst, sound I've ever heard from a professional band. Tell All Your Friends was plain good; the new one is mediocre; but their live show is awful. It's informative, that's all.
i had a good time both times i saw them, and i can't wait for reading festival to come so i can see them again.
It's informative, that's all.

Are you f**king retarded? To YOU the crowd interaction is nothing special. You need to learn that maybe you're NOT like everybody else who visits these shows... where EVERYBODY screams out the fucking lyrics like a god damned teen symphony. Some people, no wait, MOST if not ALL PEOPLE who go know what they're going to see, and these people enjoy seeing the band give it their all, even if what comes out of the speakers doesn't sound perfect. I'm sick and tired of idiots posting all this live show/new album bashing shit all over this site, get a life.

well its my opinion too, i live on Long Island and have seen this band 6 times and they have blown ass everytime. Adam can't stay in key for his life, talk about a studio singer and a vocalist who relies solely on pitch bender, jesus. Listen to any live recording of TBS and you will see how tone deaf this guy really is. CRANK THAT PITCH BENDER UP!!!

its not that i want everything sung perfect, i just want it sung good enough so i can listen to it without cringing my teeth at some of the notes adam hits. And if someone cant pull off a song without pitch bender, than they shoudlnt be a vocalist. It's sad how adam has to totally rely on a machine to compensate for his lack of an ear, if he cant atleast somewhat stay in key, than he shouldn't be a singer..period.

I'm baffled by these perfect reviews. First Alt Press, now Kerrang. I haven't seen them live personally...I've only seen some live videos/recordings. Anyway...I found the new album to be extremely mediocre. I do not see myself listening to this much more this summer. Forget about the "pop it in at anytime" replayability that TAYF has.

It's funny, only one person who responded to this thread seemed to have been at the show that Kerrang reviewed. Granted that revewer is expressing their opinion, but that's all reviews are. Stating that you disagree that the band was good or not at a show you weren't at in an attempt to sway my opinion seems even more absurd, at least that person was there.
It's great that something deserves the attention to make it so debated here or anywhere, but it's still subbjective. None of us here have the same taste so why would I judge wether I liked something based on what anyone here is saying. The debate is fun, but it's scary to think that someone would make any sort of final decision of their own opinion of something so individual, like likeing music. I'll never understand it. I dunno, i've read some stuff here but just knowing that there are people that want to hate anything these guys do makes me read it all with that understanding and know that I have to hear it or see them and decide for myself. It's almost good that the negative people never shut up, it sort of invalidates whatsbeing said.

Is a good point made a coupla posts back - I was actually at the show, TBS were on brilliant form. Adam (whatever people may say about his voice) was perfectly in tune and on-key all night, Fred sung brilliantly too. And as for the crowd reaction - well, I have been to a hell of a lot of shows in recent years, most of them at the Astoria where this one was, and I have genuinely never seen anything like it. They had the entire audience eating out of the palms of their hands. So it was an amazing show, regardless what you might have thought about them last time you saw them...

I have seen taking back sunday 4 times, and I admit the first 2 sucked very bad because Adam didnt sing half of the time, and when he did it wasnt very good. BUT the next 2 times I saw them, it was fucking awesome and it sounded amazing. They have grown just like every other good band. So what I'm saying is, is that if you are basing your opinion of a TBS show off of a show you saw 2 years ago, or even 1 year ago, go see them again next time they come around and just watch in awe of their improvement. Don't spread the word about how TBS shows suck ass if you haven't seen them lately.

I don't read Kerrang!, so I have to ask. Is it possible to get a rating of just three Ks, like, "Nickelback's performance at the white power rally recieved a rating of KKK?" If so, that seems a little fucked up.

i dont know about you people, but when i go to a show im not concerned about if the singer is "hitting right notes" or if a guitar is out of key for a part of a show. if you go to a live show and are paying so much attention to all these details, you are missing the whole point of a live show. what i want to see is a band pour 100% out of themselves and get so wrapped into the music and energy that they arent concerned about what elitist indie kids like you think about how they are matching up with their cd. if you want to hear a band play like their cd, go watch good charlotte. that will be way worth the money. im sure they'll hit every note on their cd. *possibly because it will be playing. anyways i know none of you tbs haters will change their minds after reading this post, but hey even people who support a post can have an opinion. right?
AP reviewed the new CD, gave it a 5 out of 5, and basically praised it as a great record- they did point out that some of the songs seemed out of place and that they experimented with different things, but overall they gave it a pretty good review

I was not at the Astoria show but I can say that TBS really isn't anything to rave about live. The people who think it's an amazing stage show are the people who go batty for Adam's stupid over the top antics and strangling himself... it's the same people who think Senses Fail are great live. I'm sorry but I can only see someone fake choking himself so many times before I get bored and want to actually hear good music. The only thing worse than TBS's live show is that new album of their's. Anyone who wants to can disagree with my opinion but the truth of the matter is that TBS simply isn't good music, fine if you want to like it but there is NOTHING special about it.

first off, who said i was talking to you. second off, if they sound soooooo horrible, why do they have a record deal, and more than that, why do they sellout shows, and why do they have countless fans, why do they get they get to play main stage at warped tour. i mean....it seems to me they must be doing something right, but you're probably right, they suck live, what could i possibly be thinking?!?! oh and thanks for the recommendation on seeing "more bands that don't suck live", i was thinking about that just the other day. and now that you suggest, ill leave my house right now! who would you recommend? you seem to be such the expert of great music.

No. You're an idiot. I didn't want to take this post too seriously, because every time TBS is mentioned on this site emo kids come out in droves to masturbate and argue about whether or not the new CD will be good enough or if they perform well live. I love Taking Back Sunday's old CD, but they're a different band now. Even if they were still the same group from Tell All Your Friends, I personally don't give a shit if you like them. We've all got different tastes. But I got an email because that kid posted right after me, I can't sit idly by and hear somebody say something as stupid as he doesn't care what a band sounds like live. That's where it all goes wrong. People seem to no longer care about whether a band can play the music, and that should be the most important part. If a band is only worried about what comes from the studio sounding good, and can't play live, then there's no way they really care about the music or the fans. If they did, they would practice and learn to do it right, so that the fans could hear something good. If you're just going to a show for the "energy", then put the CD on and run around like an asshole with your friends. Look at older music. Bands used to put out live CDs all the time, and you could feel their energy on that CD- because they played the music well. That's where a good show really comes from, not how loud the crowd sings along or how wild the mosh pit. Finally, I've seen TBS three times since the line-up change. Two of them were amazing shows- Adam hit the notes, everyone. But I would imagine that a band who's really only been playing together for about a year is going to need to work out some kinks. In the meantime, go buy a different CD, because John and Adam were a songwriting team, and Adam clearly can't do it on his own. Not yet, at least.
(I'm still wondering if Kerrang! will give out a KKK rating. It just doesn't seem right to me.)

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh. i get it, since i dont think how you think, im an idiot. well ill add that to the "fucking moron" before. i could be wrong but i never did say i dont "care what a band sounds like live." all i simply said is im not listening for the small negatives of a live show. the "energy" of a concert is composed of the actual band on stage, the music they play, and the crowd interaction. and unlike you i do not like to run around like an "asshole" with my friends while my cd plays. listen pal im not even sure why you go to concerts and im really dont care. and im not saying taking back sunday is a flawless band, because HEY! they're not. they play powerchords and punk beats aaaaaaaaand they're not that technical either. but shit, they put on an "entertaining" live show, and SORRY that i like to enjoy myself and not worry for one minute if adam doesnt hit the high note on Ghost Man on Third. so why dont you go back to your perfect bands, that must never make mistakes. im sure they make you very happy, you sad, angry person. and dont call me an emo kid, im far from it.

if you sit there and say that taking back sunday is good live, you need to grow some fucking balls. i just returned from warped tour in selma, the second stop due to houston being canceled, and i can tell you that although taking back sunday drew the largest crowd, by far, nonetheless played worse than any band i was priviledged enough to catch throughout the day. it seems as if the new guy is pretty much taking over.
underoath was amazing. do yourself all a favor and skip any other band that is playing, especially taking back sunday, to make sure you catch the whole set.
to my surprise, though i had heard good reviews, i would have to say that story of the year put on the second best show of the day.

That is your opinion, not a fact. For example, I am not a fan of Good Charlotte, but I'm betting most think that Good Charlotte suck. That is their opinion because others might think they are the greatest thing ever. Same with Taking Back Sunday or Yellowcard or any band.

oh i know you dont have to tell me, you can tell fred has more of a dare i say, "metal" background. the new stuff has a much harder edge. and i when i said they arent that technical its true really, cuz i mean come on, they're not Coheed or anything, but they still rock out, and that my friend is all that matters.
