Yeah, I could see that pissing people off, that is a really lame way to get into a band but I was a lot younger then and I had never heard of them before. But I know I would kinda get pissed off if all the bands I listen to were sampled in movies and everyone starts listening to them so I understand.
But still, that song was the perfect song to end Fight Club.

That's rather absurd.
I was 12 in '99. If not for that movie, I would have never been exposed to this band for years.
Oh, and I'm one of the few that felt as though Deal should have been given more creative input. Francis was a bit dictatorial over the creative aspects of the albums, and songs Deal had a hand in creating ("Gigantic," "Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons," etc.) were all very good, as was The Breeders.
Love the band though, and I'm almost glad they didn't have a successful reunion. Bands that try to come together and relive their glory days often fail to meet expectations. That isn't to say I'm happy the reunion didn't work, but it may have been for the best.

Yeah, a reunion could have just ended in a very highly anticipated record that didn't meet expectations. I wish i could have gone to a reunion show though. That would have been amazing.

I wanted to get a ticket, but they sold out in about a nanosecond only to appear immediatly on ebay for a kings ransom. Having heard reviews and spoken to people who went I'm kind of glad that I missed out now.

Really? Not that good? Lame. Although now that i think about it, i think that if they did reunite, the album they would have released would have been recieved poorly by the new generation of kids who didn't know who The Pixies were.

It is absurd. I can admit that but for whatever reason, it rub's me the wrong way.
And what do you mean by they didnt have a successful reunion exactly? Every show sold out in a matter of minutes. Not to mention the press regarding shows were all pretty positive. If you mean because they didnt record another album, from what I've read, it's because Kim Deal wanted to focus on The Breeders. Last I read, there hasnt been an axe put through the idea of another Pixies album.

It wasn't successful because, from what I read, they broke on bad terms and the accumulation of minor creative differences. They were recording an album but were unable to finish it as a result. You must keep in mind that "success" is relative and your definition and mine are obviously different, but if you break your reunion a few years later due to tension/creative clashes and abandon the LP you were working on, I wouldn't classify it as a "success" in that regard.
My favourite Pixies songs have got to be Where Is My Mind?, Velouria and Wave of Mutilation.
I've only gotten into them about 3 years ago.
Oh, and one of my friends just bought me the Best Of compliation for my birthday a few days ago - she knows me so well ^_^

I just watched LoudQUIETloud a little while ago--a documentary about their reunion. It was really cool, although kinda depressing.
One thing that's been bothering me though: is it The Pixies or simply Pixies? Cuz on both Surfer Rosa and Doolittle it's just 'Pixies.' Yet, in the documentary, the band members continually refer to the band as 'The Pixies.' So, wtf?

Good question, i just realized the same thing on the album covers.
It's officially Pixies, although it just rolls off the tongue more if you say the pixies, and it just sounds better in conversation.

That's the trouble with covers. The best covers are the original song with the artist's unique twist on it, but on some songs it would be really hard to add a twist onto without getting severe critism. Like a Beatles song.
Well I think if it had been him and his acoustic guitar it would've been a lot better.

Oh ok. Yeah there's been rumors for a while that they were gonna put out another record. I personally don't think it will ever happen but you never know.

Mm. I'll just tell myself it's more likely than a Smith's reunion happening.

Nice man. "Monkey Gone to Heaven" is one of my favorites. Are you guys gonna record video of this? I'd be interested to hear how your band sounds performing these.

I'm sure somebody will but it might be too loud. It's funny because we somehow ended up getting monkey gone to heaven even though one of the other bands that formed for the occasion took their name from a line in that song.

No one writes about them because there's really nothing to report. Unless you want to talk about specific albums, songs, creative philosophy of the band in depth, there's really not that much to add to the dialogue.

I would guess that it probably would be a bit more structured, more singer-songwriter-esque, and obviously keeping with the quiet/quiet/loud formula. This might be obvious to everyone, but I didn't want to assume that we were all thinking the same thing.
Debaser is still the best song ever written basically.
Pretty much. It's the first Pixies song I heard and still one of my favorites. They've only written a handful of songs that are better than "Debaser".

I listened to Doolittle for the first time and re-discovered Here comes your man. I listened to that song so much when I was little. It just took me straight back.
