And they get a cochlear implant and are able to hear. You have the oppritunity to present them with their first piece of music.
What song do you play for them?

But it will only make him stronger.
Seriously take a listen to Tim Halbert's Excremental Intermission (Boomshine) it's fantastic and I think it may be an incredible experience for someones first piece of music. This is the song I would choose.
Edit: yes I know this is hypothetical. im just not sure how many people have heard this.
Or you could just go with fuckin YMCA or something retarded which would make them never use their cochlear implant.

there is no reason to lie or be ashamed of this. I'd want classical to be my first musical experience, not some myspace scene thing like Millionaires or brokeNCYDE

Agreed. I'd want to show them the art and passion first.
THEN break them down into what music has degraded into. haha.

It sort of happened to me! My mom's hearing is pretty bad and she can't really hear music at all unless it's blasting, and even then... but she got a new hearing aid a while ago and it was working so well that she even started hearing some of my music when I was in the car with her and started getting into it. It was pretty awesome.

Haha, no. In a rare instance I turned on the TV and Mtv had a show called True Stories or something like that and it was on these two deaf kids. It made me think.
in order:
1. beethoven - moonlight sonata
2. appleseed cast - poseidon
3. thrice - for miles
4. mogwai - friend of the night
5. radiohead - karma police
6. pearl jam - immortality

She loves acoustic stuff, and piano, so I made her a mix with a lot of Copeland, Appleseed Cast, Sara Bareilles, Daphne Loves Derby, Tim Finn, etc. She absolutely loved it, and still listens to it haha. I should really make her another one.

Miles is definitely the first name that comes to mind when jazz is mentioned. Coltrane, Mingus, Ornette, Monk, Ayler, Brubeck, Getz/Gilberto are all contenders for having written the genre's greatest album though.

Really? I haven't seen many people here talk about him that much. Then again I'm still sorta new.

for the younger generation that might be true. and I would add Jamal and Montgomery to that list as well.

every hip kid I know claims to like miles davis but if you were to ask them who wrote "take five" they would say dave brubeck or that they didn't know. both answers would be wrong.
