I think it's a shame that the athletes can't compete. A lot of training for nothing must suck.

sucks, but its not surprising that the Iraqi government would fuck this up with disorganization. And it sounds like they had the chance to go to the IOC and discuss the new committee in some form.
I bet this could be reversed if they actually work it out with the IOC

Why does the IOC care who is on the Iraqi Olympic committee? Seems Iraq should be allowed to control something like this, not the IOC.

Thats the point im getting at. I understand its the IOC's event, but unless Iraq completely fucked with/suspended their Olympic programs, and if the athletes are in good shape and ready to compete, who f-in cares?

Yes, but Iraq should be allowed to compete. Sometimes the honor of going to the Olympics outweighs the winning part. It's unfortunate something as petty as this gets in the way.
Now I don't know the whole story about these new guys on the Iraqi committee, but could they be THAT bad to warrant a ban?
